Inflation is a helluva thing, huh?

I was "priced out" of Topps Finest back in '93 as a kid. Still didn't stop me from enjoying the hobby.

I started out with $25 of comc credit originally back in 2016. I have obviously invested more than that but I turned that original $25 into a port of 135,000 cards.

Flipping nickel or even quarter cards can go a long way.

$125 a month is insanity and I’m rich. Ask anyone here

Probably why I’m rich. I’m not a crazy person

But that’s a different thread

Damn, $125/mo?!

I got $5/mo when lucky. Usually it was $0/mo allowance but can’t complain about free room/board haha.

This is perhaps the craziest thread I've ever seen on here. I'll leave it at that.

I know adults that aren't priced out of the hobby at $125 a month

My buddy’s budget is $100 a month. He’s nearly 40. He usually buys a couple blasters and some singles. Maybe a hobby box. He’s happy as can be.

Bingo. Kids can do more than enough w/ $125 a month. COMC is a constant flood of cool, fun, cheap cards. Card show bins are the same. $125 can get you a lot, if you have realistic expectations.

Tell your kid to stop watching Sports Card Investor, CardCollector2, Roth Cards, and all other similar content.

what's cool about $125 is that if you give the right advice and provide the tools, a low end hobbyist can produce an impressive inventory over time.

13 years old? play the long game with the goal that eventually the $125 a month can go to other things because the hobby is generating it's own "allowance"

i bought two Othani cards recently for my pc with a few dollars to spare using the $125 parameters and it's all funded by flips.

In 2019 I took $100 and invested it in lower end cards. Turned that into $200. $200 into $500. $500 into $1000. I went from selling $1 to $3 cards to $50 to $200 cards.

If you're getting $125 a month you're in a better position to where I started.

If he's getting $125 a month for existing what does it take to get him to Bowman jumbo case level? Mow the lawn once a week?

I remember buying my packs as a kid. $4 I think. My allowance was nonexistent. I always felt priced out of the hobby. Especially as a ten year old. I was super excited as a 38 year old when I finally bought my first hobby box. Even in my early 20’s I wasn’t making much money. I’d occasionally spend the $8 on a blaster. Bowman was too expensive at $12. Lucky for me my sister worked at target for a while and she’d bring be wrestling blasters when they were available.

I don’t think it is a kids hobby. I think it’s a hobby adults share with their children.

Most of the full-grown adults in this thread can only “exist” in this “hobby” themselves by selling at least $125 a month…and they know it. The rest either operate or are employed by a card business but a small percentage actually have sufficient income.

Naturally everyone here will claim to be wealthy but most of these people are really industry shills whose job it is to make the market always appear strong
