Here's one of favorites. Pulled 4 autos out of 2 1998 SP Authentic boxes that I opened around 2008. Unfortunately 2 were long expired redemtions. I finally "redeemed" it a year or 2 ago.

I collect Vince. From the prices I see on his high end stuff I think he gets plenty of hobby love. I was a freshman at UNC the same year as Twan and Vince. I had left the card world during their playing days so now I’m picking up stuff I missed. I focus more on Jamison since I can still get really cool stuff of his at a price I can tolerate more.

I have the complete run of Vince’s topps chrome refractors and panini silver prizms except his rookie year refractor. Waiting for that to come down in price more. That was fun to put together. I’ll add other cards of his I find interesting from time to time as well.

Sold off most of my small side PC I had of VC many years back, but still have a few dual auto cards in my T-Mac PC. My favorite is this 1:

That's a sweet SOTT Silver. Might try to get one raw myself if budget allows.

The best that I could come up with his rookie autograph cards are these two. Have a Bowman autograph card of him (regular version) and a Co-Signers card (with Mike Bibby) as well.

This is one of my favorite cards - one of the few I have that are basically untouchable.

A few others:

And then there's this. My daughter (now she's 13 - photo is probably 6 or 7 years ago when he was here in Memphis) is a big Vince fan, and we were at a United Way event for my wife's work that VC was at. Got him to sign this plate for her, because it was the only thing I could find for him to sign.

That's sweet. Signing on the plate makes it more memorable because there's a story attached to it. And you and your daughter have a lifetime memory of meeting the GDOAT.

Oh - my daughter wasn't there - just my wife and me LOL.

She's now got a weird signed plate collection - Vince, she got Brevin Knight on her own at a game, and she got one done by a musician we like did as well after a concert. That was a weird request - "hey - y'all have any spare plates from catering lying around?"

^ Feels like the good ol' days of getting autographs on pieces of papers. That's very sweet.

Man, every time I see his 98-99 SP Authentic I just get flashbacks to the tail end of my card shop days.

Am I misremembering or was that THE chase for like a year?

Never had it but it was absolutely huge back then. I could be wrong but I want to say it was around $1000 back then, which was huge at that time considering many MJ autos sold for around $300.

Yea you might be right, most of the Becketts I have now are prior to that release so I can’t confirm, but I’m pretty sure those up arrows were hitting every single month and it at least got close to 1k.

It's huge but I don't agree with the bold part regarding MJ autograph cards back in the late 90's. They were still rare and more expensive than $300 until mid-2000's when UD started having MJ sign cards after cards (before the company lost the NBA license). Anyway, off-topic here.

That VC SP Authentic was THE card to have. It easily surpassed the Kobe Chrome. I think it peaked at $1200 in Beckett?

Crazy to think you could get 3-4 MJ autos for one. And likely MJ playing day autos at that.

Definitely 4-figure for the VC rookie card at the peak. I remember that too when the price was listed at that range, very crazy considering that the print run is 3500.
I got mine when it's down to around $50-ish, but saw a rise again in recent years.

Even though the PR was 3500, I want to say SP Authentic was the first base RC to be serially numbered, which led to the hype.

I think the SPx Finite RC /2500 is undervalued in comparison. Although it doesn't have an action shot. If only SP Authentic had a sweet pic of Vince throwing down.

It would have been amazing if SPx Finite could have gotten him in an action shot. Outside of the rookies (draft day suits) , I think the photos used for the 98-99 SPx Finite base cards are some of the best.

Exactamundo.

Plus we have to keep in mind his hype was exceeding Kobe’s at this point.

Some nice-looking Vince cards going for pretty good coin these days.

Notable Nicknames 1/1 for $5K and a nice Noir Spotlight Sig for almost $1K.

The combo of sweet Vince dunking pics plus a nice looking sig make for some beauties.

The total print run of numbered Prizms is 3500.

What companies figured out was the concept of artificial scarcity by making hundreds of different variations.

I think the hobby would be much better off with 1 base rookie card /3500 (and no parallels) instead of 50 colored waves/pulsars/dots, etc...

They could also just compromise and cut down to:

-silver
-gold
-black
-jersey match (/99)

I agree and that is why I don't care about rookie cards after 1990 in any sport. Every card, including inserts, have RC logos on them. It has lost the meaning for me as a HOF RC collector.
