Based on recent Topps Chrome that I've ripped in other sports, I'm honestly surprised to see centered cards lol.

One exception are Topps Chrome soccer releases since they are printed in a factory in Italy which so far has had good QC.

I don't follow the tennis market but like ripping random wax and have watched tennis on and off. Anybody have thoughts on what a decent price for a Lite case should be?

I'd want to make a base set for myself, keep some inserts/parallels of people I like and sell the rest to help recoup some of the cost.

Ripped 6 lite boxes from the lcs today. Very surprised with the amount of color. I was expecting maybe 1 #d per box. The box that had the auto also had the orange and 2 other color.

I was just ripping for the hell of it hoping to get lucky and hit a nice Hingis, so I don’t know much about some of these names. Time to research.

I'm guessing lite cases make their way down to the $400's if you can wait a bit, maybe lower. You could probably justify buying in the $500's for a cheap rip, but don't expect to recoup much cost at even those prices.

Trying to handle the cards as little as possible to sort/list but Topps sure made sure that every fingerprint sticks to the cards

I’ve opened two 2022 Topps Chrome products and both were horrible with fingerprints.

How’s the card stock quality and warping? Both of those Chrome products were also noticeably thin and flimsy feeling.

I also rip a lot of soccer and those get printed in Italy and the card stock and QC got Chrome releases are usually on point.

Lot of warping, some too thick for normal thin toploads

It would be mayhem. A lot more people are ripping than I thought would, but I think it's bc of pent up demand for tennis.

yup! it's about time we had a tennis product...only this was kind of a dud without the big names.

I think about this way too much. Every time I look at listings, I remember how excited I was when this was first announced. This really would have been one of the best products across sports ever had it gotten the checklist it deserved.

Do tennis players hold onto their image rights individually so Topps was OK with Michael Chang’s fee but balked at Nadal’s? Or are there other reasons behind the checklist choices?

I’m a very, very casual tennis fan but I’m getting excited by the idea of ripping some tennis despite this and other issues and will definitely be watching Lite prices as they drop.

I have a huge Djokovic collection and quite a few cards of Nadal, Federer and Alcaraz. I was looking forward to finally opening some tennis. No chance with this though. I'll wait. Maybe Ace Authentic puts something out. This set has literally none of the top players in it. It's like putting out an NFL set with no QB's, RB's or receivers.

I think that is the consensus on how the licensing works. There is the newly formed player union which Topps has a deal with, but it's in it's infancy and doesn't look like it has many players yet. Although annoyingly Novak is one of them I believe, yet he's not in this product. Could have just been a timing issue since this product started long before the union did and who knows when the checklist was locked. Hopefully the union catches on and we get some proper tennis checklists in the future.

There is a lite box and a hobby box ending on auction at a terrible time tomorrow morning. Will be interesting to see how little they go for.

Has anyone seen a Sampras auto? I've seen about 10 cases ripped so far and none on ebay either. I'm starting to wonder if he actually does have autos in here.

Glad I checked this thread before diving into a Lite box. Some nice looking cards but the checklist looks made for only tennis die-hards.

Holy crap, last 2 hobby boxes auctioned in the $80's (+ $13 shipping). That was fast.

I bought into 6 case breaks, targeting volynets in all cases, McNally in 3, and di maneur in 1 just bc they were cheap spots and younger decentish players. I tried buying a couple of fils spots and some of the older players but anything past 9 bucks felt too expensive. I felt lucky in beating the odds -- got 1 McNally auto/50, 1 Volynets rose gold auto /10, 1 Volynets blue refractor /50, and a half dozen refractors and clay court inserts.. Not much worth chasing so I'm stopping there. Besides the crappy checklist, the auto odds are pretty average at 4-6/case.
