April 2020

5) 1999-00 Topps Chrome Error
I still need to take a picture of this card, but Buckunteer reached out to me with an card he "knew I didn't have" but then also mentioned that it was something "small". I literally had no idea what card he could have found that fit that criteria. This was a cool addition because I only have one other error card for Harper, a 1999-00 Topps base card that Dujuan Wagner gifted me. Someone was drinking on the job at Topps factory that year apparently!

4)1991-93 5 Majeur
This was a rare French foreign magazine release. I picked up one copy about 5 years ago and hadn't seen another copy until this one.

3) 2000-01 Upper Deck MVP Gold Script 97/100
This is my 7th copy of this card (pic is actually my first copy as place holder). Trying to get to 10/100 for a 90s or late 00's print run. I'm close on a few sets now, but bet I'm still a couple years away from completing this goal.

2) 1999-00 Topps MVP Promotion
This is my second copy. My first copy I actually pulled from a box specifically hunting this card. It was the most crazy thing ever. Anyways, I knew I was gonna send the copy I pulled to BGS for grading, so I wanted to add a raw copy for my PC as well. I had literally never seen one of these cards anywhere until I pulled mine about 18 months ago. This is a set that haunts player collectors, so while it may look boring, my other hardcore player chasers know how it feels to have these MVP promos locked up.

1) 1998-99 Fleer Brilliants 24kt Gold 9/24
This is my top card addition of the year so far, and one of my favorites for the PC. When I think about what Ron Harper's top 10 cards from his playing days might be, this card has a legit shot at making that list. He has four 1/1s, a starting 5 parallel /5, 00-01 Topps chrome final piece refractor 4/10, PMG 9/50, Ruby 9/50, autographics CM 9/100, and then this card jersey numbered. No way this card slides past slot #15 IMO. This is only my second jersey numbered card from his playing days.

A couple of insane updates! I love that you're slowly accumulating multiple copies of the numbered stuff, too! For anyone that's checking this thread, he posted twice in the same day and the first post got stuck on the previous page. Make sure you check it out!

The 24K is really sharp. Nice pick-ups, and thanks for sharing.

Playing some catch up...

May 2020
I had not graded any cards in several years due to the costs, but I do enjoy building my Ron Harper player registry. I'm basically the only person who grades Ron Harper cards so I have not been able to pick many up on secondary market. I decided to place a 51 card, 30 day order this month and have not received any cards back yet. This essentially ate up the rest of my card budget for the year, but I was able to sell a Giannis Prizm base rc I bought in 2014 for 25 cents for about $600 profit, so figured I would put that money back into my card budget. So with that said, here is my 3 card mail month.

3) 2001-02 Topps MVP Promotion #68
This card popped up on COMC for under $5 so I decided to pick up an extra copy. These cards are hard to find, and i don't have a graded copy for my BGS registry yet; looking for a condition upgrade. The card is a bit off center left to right, but otherwise looks decent. I now have 6% of the print run, and am trying to reach at least 10% of a 90s or early 2000s cards print run

2) 1997-98 Skybox Autographics Century Marks oddball
Alright BO community, I need your help on this one. I only have a handful of autographics cards but I'm trying to figure out exactly what this card is/was. This is the second card like this that has popped up without the serial numbering. As I have started picking up jersey numbered cards, one of the main cards I'm looking for is this century mark 9/100. While people do not generally fake Ron Harper cards, I want to be vigilent and aware if this card ever pops up based on the backdoored copies of Fleer/Skybox. Here is what I've learned:
- on the few 96-97 autographics cards, the "Autographics" text over the seal is bubbly
- on all my 97-98 Harper base and numbered CM, the seal has bubbly Autographics text arched over the top of the embossed seal. On the CM cards, there is embossing that says Century Club arched under the seal.
- on my one 98-99 Autographics base card of a complete scrub, the Autographics text above the embossed seal is more defined, slightly smaller, and more of a block lettering until the cursive -ics portion of autograph-ics
- then on several from 99-00, the autographics text goes back to bubbly, more poorly defined type

- on the 2 unnumbered 1997-98 cards, the Autographics type looks like the 98-99 version, and the Auto- part is very hard to read if there at all. I don't seen any bottom text that says Century Club.

Sooo, I think these cards were unstamped bankruptcy cards, and someone got a hold of a seal from 98-99 and stamped them. That being said, both copies I've obtained went for about the same as or significantly less than the base versions of the card. The owners listed them as base versions and not CM versions. So why go through the hassle of fake stamping them if you aren't going to put a fake number and try to sell as a CM version. Also, on the first copy I got, the guy told me he pack pulled his version and sold it to me for like $10. Could Skybox have put the wrong foil on some base, and used a second stamp/seal for some series 2 releases or something?

Any autographics experts please weigh in!!!

1) 2012-13 Panini Limited Curtain Calls Materials Prime 8/10
There aren't too many Ron Harper Chicago Bulls prime jersey swatch cards, so picked up my 3rd copy of this card. Things were slow in May... which combined to spending more time at home, prompted my BGS submission.

June 2020

This was only a 2 card mail month :/

2) 2019-20 Panini Certified Raise the Banner Mirror Gold 9/10
Added a jersey numbered card to the PC. I had this rainbow completed already with base, pink camo /25, gold /10, green /5, and black 1/1. Now I really want to find the pink camo 9/25 to complete the jersey numbered rainbow. Unfortunately, I saw that someone had listed it on eBay and it sold before I saw the listing. Probably locked into a PC, but if you know where it is, keep me in mind!!

1) 1997-98 Topps Stadium Club Team of the 90s First Day Issue #5
I already have 2 copies of this card, but I saw this one get listed at $200 on COMC during the height of the Last Dance Docuseries hype. The condition looked amazing! I plan on getting this graded and wish I could get it sent in straight from COMC, but unfortunately they stopped that service. I will definitely grade this one when I get it and will likely sell either this one or the BGS 9 copy I already have to put toward another Harper card. At least that is the plan for now.

July 2020

3) 1997-98 Ultra Platinum Medallion 24/100
I haven't gotten this card in yet, but I love platinum medallions! I think this card is my favorite card of Ron Harper from a purely aesthetic perspective. This will be my 4th copy of this card, and I really have not reasonable justification for adding this one. It doesn't have special numbering. The condition wasn't that great. I already own a BGS 9.5 version of the card. I just wanted it...

I will post a pick once it gets in.

2) 1997-98 Topps Chrome Refractor #58 PSA 10 (POP 1)
My younger sister asked for my instagram handle to follow me. I explained it was nothing but Ron Harper cards and probably would not be very interesting, but gave her my info. Then my birthday came on July 10 and I found out why she really wanted my IG. She had bought me this Ron Harper card; she wanted to make sure it was not one that I already had. This is what she found! Pretty good find for someone who knows little about cards. Classic set, high grade, low pop... way to go sis! She said she was scared when she got it because it was a little green and I explained that this is normal for the set.

1) 2019-20 Panini Contenders Winning Ticket Championship Edition 1/1
This is my first 1/1 of 2020! This completes one of my yearly goals and also helps me complete another rainbow. Shoutout to our resident Joe Johnson super collector, kingofsnake, for sending me a message on BO letting me know about the card. He must have seen it within minutes of the listing!

I received two common Autographics CMs of the same player (can’t recall who or if I kept any) and they were not numbered...don’t recall if they were stamped

Panini has done a great job designing inserts in recent years. I love the raise the banner set, it's an outstanding design and the parallels are really well done to highlight differences from the base version. And those platinum foil elements on the winning tickets are beautiful.

Love the pickups and thanks for sharing!

Last half of the year was a bit more slow so I hadn't been making updates regularly. Also, the hobby forum seems to be going away from PC threads/show-offs and more geared toward investment/flipping, so not sure there is really an audience for this type of thread anymore, but I still find it as a fun way to enjoy my PC so here goes nothing...

August 2020
1) 2014-15 Panini Totally Certified Signatures Mirror TCSRH 9/25
I was gifted this card, Chicago Bulls jersey numbered, by my friend Eric. I believe he pulled this from a personal break. Eric is a great guy with a great PC. Check him out on IG at mercer_cards He has a top notch Ron Mercer collection and a growing collection of 80s hall of famers like Larry Bird and Dr. J. This month would have been a complete drought if not for Eric; appreciate you man!

September 2020
3) 2019-20 Panini Illusions Trophy Collection Signatures #1
Harper was added to the Illusions release, which was kinda nice to see him in a new product. Also kinda annoying seeing he still has unfulfilled auto redemptions from products released in 2014 by Panini. Not a super exciting card, but at least it was something to chase. I also liked the print runs were /5, /10, /15, /25 and this unnumbered copy. Keeps the rainbow chase much more affordable without the 1/1. The chase has a /5 pink and /10 orange parallel, which I actually liked. They don't mesh well with team colors, but they are some colored parallels that haven't been done to death for my PC guy already.

2) 2019-20 Panini Illusions Trophy Collection Signatures Sapphire #1 7/15
This card came in the same day as the one above. I must have had a long day because I remember unwrapping them and not seeing any difference other than the SN. I was thinking, huh... i thought they'd make the sapphire parallel blue or something. I asked my wife if she could tell a difference and she said no, which also just confused me more. Then I started looking on e-bay at other colored parallels from the set and then saw it. Now it seems impossible not to see the difference. Like I said, it was a long day.

1) 2019-20 Panini Contenders Optic Winning Ticket Cracked Ice Red #22
Harper had gone so long without being in releases that I have stopped checking the Panini checklists to see if he is in upcoming sets. This one popped up on eBay randomly and I was immediately confused. He had been in Contenders earlier in the year for the first time, and I had completed that rainbow. This card popped up and looked so similar (although the optic version) that I thought it was some secret parallel from Contenders. I way overpaid in that moment because I was just confused what it was. I like the red cracked ice with the Bulls colors though. When I figured out that this was the OPTIC version, I also learned there was a Gold Vinyl 1/1 and got super excited for the possibility of landing that in the future.

October 2020

5) 1990-91 Fleer #86 PSA 10
While I still prefer BGS, if I find a PSA 10 of Harper on eBay auction, I generally make a play for it. BIN are always listed way too high and never sell, but auctions I can generally get the card for under $20. This one ended a little north of that, but I had gone under budget each month since April, so decided I could splurge. Got it and was once again disappointed I bought a PSA 10 that did not show a picture of the back, as the centering was probably 80/20. That may be ok by PSA standards but if I'm paying over 20$ for a 1990 non rookie base card, I really expect it to be perfect. Reminder to self:: always get back pics on PSA 10s.

4) 2019-20 Panini Contenders Optic Winning Ticket #22
The optic rainbow is manageable. Base prizm below, red cracked ice from the previous month, blue cracked ice, gold /10, and gold vinyl 1/1. I'll have to settle for chasing the poor man's rainbow, however, because IG user moo_moo_niu added the gold vinyl to his PC and I didn't have anything he was interested in for trade. So if anyone has an Iverson he wants, let me know maybe we can work out a 3 way trade. I do have a 97-98 Stadium club Iverson plate 1/1 that is available for trade in a multi-team deal that sends the Harper my way!

3) 2015-16 Panini National Treasures Colossal Jerseys Autographs Prime CJ-RHP 4/25
This card helped me achieve a goal of mine. A jersey numbered rainbow. I have the 1/1, 4/25, and 4/49 versions! It's only a 3 card rainbow, but still pretty cool if you ask me.

2) 2015-16 Panini Court Kings Brush Strokes BS-RH B 4/199
This was my 2nd jersey numbered card of the month. I feel like the higher SN cards are harder to find jersey numbered, so I actually appreciate this one more than the 4/25 above.

1) 2019-20 Panini Contenders Optic Winning Ticket Gold Prizm #22 9/10
And now my 3rd jersey numbered card of the month! This month brought me over 20% for total jersey numbered cards for Harper and was #43. The lister had it as 8/10, but when I saw the back I was pleasantly surprised to see it was actually 9/10. There was a little bit of glare so I wasn't 100% sure of my find, but I ran it by Ike_love, and he agreed it was jersey numbered. Unfortunately, I think someone else must have noticed too because it ended up bid up in the last 5 minutes to what I think it would have sold for if listed appropriately.

2) 2019-20 Panini Contenders Optic Winning Ticket Cracked Ice Blue Prizm #22
Got the poor man's rainbow! Now if only I could get that gold vinyl.....

1) 2007-08 Upper Deck Chronology Autograph
These cards are short printed, although not sure how many exist. They are also very condition sensitive. This is my 3rd copy of the card, but the condition and centering looked much better than my copies, so decided to upgrade. I may send this one off to BGS if the corners are sharp and surface looks clean for my registry. It is still at COMC at the moment, as you can see by the watermark.

3) 2019-20 Panini Illusions Trophy Collection Signatures Emerald #1 24/25
Snagged the Emerald. Now I'm just looking for orange /10 and pink /5. Let me know if you find any at a reasonable price!

2) 1996-97 Metal Precious Metal
The first year of precious metal is often overlooked. Adam, aka Ike_love, found this one for a steal in Taiwan and picked it up for me. Such a nice Christmas present! Adam even autographed a blank filler that he included in the package! Pics of both coming soon

1) 2014-15 Panini Preferred Roundball Autographs 9/10
Another jersey numbered addition! This one is coming from Probstein, and took nearly a month to arrive due to Covid-19 + holiday shipping. I have this rainbow already, so now looking for the jersey numbered versions. This is my first jersey numbered card for the set.

Audience, present!

Sounds like you had a great second half of the year. I'm not sure if you prefer to chase more cards or not, but two releases without a mountain of parallels seemed like a good way to keep you busy without chasing a ton of cards for a few months.

I like illusions as a whole, I think it is a well designed product and looks good. And oddly enough I like the blue cracked ice more than the red in this case. I like the color variety on the blue.

It has been a while since I bumped this thread. To be honest, blowout forums seemed much more focused on investiment angle than hobby angle for a while and that was not really what I was looking for. I started using IG more, although I'm not super consistent with that either. When I have free time to spend on the hobby, I've been mostly on TCDB.com. I've uploaded most of my collection on there now. I still browse BO, and lately it seems to be getting back to the hobby focus it once had.

Anyway, I had a few big pick up over the last few weeks, including this:

2020-21 Panini Immaculate Logoman Autograph 1/1

I always felt like without a logoman card in my PC, I wasn't a true "supercollector." I know the term supercollector is routinely mocked by a lot in the hobby as every collector has their own goals for their collection. But I remember reading those old Beckett magazines and people getting featured for being a "supercollector" with a massive spread of cards and memorabilia in the background. As a kid that's what I hoped I'd be able to do one day.

I'm a completionist collector. I want to try to find all the cards of Harper for my PC. I know I will never get there, but I'm a very objective, quantitative person. I like setting specific numerical goals. Setting goals actually helps me stick to my budget and stay focused on a narrow collection like this. So I was hoping to get the forum's advice on my supercollector resume and where I should try to focus improvements. I'm not really too interested in memorabilia outside of cards.

Total Cards: 1303
Total Unique Cards: 761 of 880 (86.5%)
Total Pre-retirement Cards: 439 of 462 (95%)
Total Post-retirement Cards: 322 of 418 (77%)
Total Non 1/1 Cards: 712 of 739 (96%)
Total 1/1 Cards: 24 of 61 (39.3%)
Total Plates: 30 of 80 (37.5%)
Total Autographed Cards: 193 of 228 (84.6%)
Total Memorabilia Cards: 90 of 103 (87.4%)
Total Jersey Numbered Cards: 59 of 245 (24.1%)
Total Graded Cards: 196
BGS Player Registry: 156 cards with GPA of 9.13

Incredible logoman, congrats!

As far as ideas for your collection, grabbing jersey #'d cards was always a fun chase back when I was more of a player collector.

Man love the stats. I have a tracker solely for Mitch's cards from his playing days. I'm at 97.3% completion...if you don't count 1/1s OR any of the international/promo/oddball releases haha. Keep plugging along!
