His trouble with lefty's is a major flaw.

Ironically, his homer yesterday was off a good lefty, Julio Urias.

He is 27 years old and isn't on the same team his rookie cards are on. That is the equivilent of 95 in terms of sports cards.

Yes so hopefully he's rediscovering how to hit again. In his MVP year he hit lefties pretty damn well. Since then it hasn'r been pretty.

He walked just about as much as he struck out, actually underpormed his expected numbers based on quality of contact, and was a true superstar. He's always had a pull-centric power swing that isn't made to go oppo with power, but his results for his age 21-23 seasons were phenomenal and all of his indicators were trending in a really positive direction. It just cratered in 2020 and beyond due to a number of reasons, including some pretty serious injuries.
Downplaying his MVP season (2019) ? ? That would be like downplaying the rookie season Jevon Kearse had, 14 1/2 sacks, 9 PD, 8 FF, he was a beast. Teams started to realize that if they went straight at him, Kearse would struggle. Both had amazing seasons at young ages, but opponents will find weaknesses and exploit them.

I still believe with the rule changes, it will help the pull hitters the most. Bellinger, Gallo, etc. we will find out.

Oh please. It was his 3rd season. Teams had plenty of film on him for quite a while before that. To allege his decline was even remotely related to teams suddenly discovering a hidden weakness to exploit is disingenuous at best. Even your own argument betrays your point. Kearse's rookie season can hardly be considered relevant to Bellinger's 3rd year.

I did not go big on Bellinger. What high-end cards I did buy were flipped pretty quickly. So I’m not holding any bag here.

That said, the dude had showed a lot by age 24, with a historic rookie season and a monster MVP season. While his swing has always been suspect, it would’ve been difficult to predict his collapse.

I never bought the Bellinger hype. That ugly batting stance/swing looked as if the power was not sustainable due to how long of a swing it is. Susposedly, since his injury, that swing isn't fast enough to catch up like it was before. Fluke or not, I was never a believer.

Exactly, teams look at tape but to actually have fielders being positioned correctly for pitchers to throw certain pitches while locating them in specific zones with spin rates and speed / differentiation of speeds takes time and those with skills. Please take a look at Gallo from 17-19 and his BA was .034 points higher than in 20-22 as well as his SLG. Bellinger had even bigger splits in the same years. It’s no fluke that opponents copy how others succeed against their opponents.

Bellinger in his 3rd season - age 23 , while Kearse and his rookie season was at age 23, therefore, yes, my argument is exactly on point. By age 24, 25 and 26 both declined though they should have been peaking.

Other than the part where you are comparing a baseball outfielder to a football defensive end from 20+ years ago. Aside from that, you are all over it.

By critiquing a 23 year old rookie football player who was selected as the 2nd best defensive player in the entire NFL in 99? To have a 23 year old MLB positional player who for those that value WAR, 2nd best in MLB in 19, be compared to a NFL player? Opponents in both leagues figured out how to exploit these players weaknesses, it occurs.

The weaknesses that no longer can be used against Bellinger - drastic shifting, having relievers rotating constantly in high leverage situations. 4 relievers to face 4 batters in the same inning. I’m not certain if rosters are still carrying at least 2 - 3 more pitchers than they did just a decade ago. Relievers will need to pitch to more batters thus throwing more pitches therefore less likely to be repeatedly used. Many of the new rules will help pull hitters benefit this season.

Different sport, different situation. Kearse had two more Pro Bowl seasons after his rookie year, then missed most of the next year with an injury. Did his opponents 'figure out' that he can't rush the passer with a broken foot?

Never reached AP1 status again nor was he selected as a top DPOY after his rookie season. Each year his stats kept dwindling until being injured. It can be frustrating when the strength is to chase down opponents but the o’linemen keep smash-mouthing him at the line of scrimmage. I can see how the likely hood of a injury can occur when constantly pounding into 300+ lbs linemen, though it did occur in practice.

The elimination of the shift has really helped Bellinger.

His ground balls have a chance to be hits now. Takes the pressure off ABs and he can relax.

.286/.349/.500 - 3 HRs 10 RBIs ( Projected - 35 HRs 116 RBIs - ONLY 104 Ks ) - I know it's SUPER early... those numbers are close to his MVP season in 2019.

Teams just can’t rotate relievers to go after multiple batters in a row. Managers have to pick which batter they can get out before damage is done. Much different this season. No more righty-lefty-righty etc.

I've got more bellinger than I want right now, but nothing high end.

I mean this might sound silly but the fact that he always looked stoned was a red flag to me. Happy 420 yall

I bought a 2017 Heritage Refractor RC for $40 in 2017. I’d imagine that goes for a lot less these days.

Bellinger is still on a HOF track. 27 yr old with 18 WAR. ROY & MVP. He's a good CF. Adding another big market team helps too. IF he keeps hitting and is even 80-90% of his MVP self he will be a top Free Agent in a weak class.
