Haven't submitted to PSA in a while, but I decided to pick out my top 13 cards out of my stash, and took the extra time to painstakenly loupe them, measure the centering on each of them. All the corners under magnification were krispy top to bottom and I even made sure to really take the back of the card in to consideration ie 60/40 standard. Years past this was a shoe in for 90% Gem rate. Only got 3/13 10s at a whopping 23% Gem rate. Rest were 9's.
I think I'm finished. Rant over

Understandable. It's just frustrating, as looking at their standards 3 years ago they would have been 10s. I think we have all seen 10s that are suspect at best. Just goes to show I feel sure I got someone who kicks their dog when they get home as they are really getting stingy on giving out the Gems

$20 bill behind the chrome auto doesn’t work anymore.
You need to place a Benji back there. |

The feedback shared in the Grading forum seem to indicate that modern era graders have been very inconsistent...possibly due to some of the recently hired graders (i.e. in the past year or two to accommodate the huge jump in volume) are looking at PSA 10 in the same way as a BGS 10...and other similar graders don't look nearly as tough...so it's a matter of which grader you get. Some play the crack/resubmit game if you believe you've got gems and the cards are high value enough where it's worth resubmitting.

If you had checked out the Grading forum you would have known PSA has been that way for a while on modern/ultra modern

Im not getting this grading thing.
So the last couple years they had bozos that couldn't tell a card was a 9 from a 10 and now they hired more bozos that can tell a 9 from a 10? How is this possible. Do they have better eye tests now? Do they have special hobby glasses? Did they go to a new school for graders? Somebody call Dr. Brule. |

PSA does not have stricter modern standards today. There's 22,000+ Juan Soto US300 PSA 10s and only 9000 9s.

I will chck the grading forum but I'm guessing I'm not the only person on this forum with this type of question. For a set that had good QC, have they become significantly more volatile with grading since 2020? Example: I sent in 50 Soto HMT55 back then (out of 60ish that I had - weeded out anything obvious). Got back 47 PSA 10's and 3 PSA 9's. Now, that TCU set had pretty great QC and no borders but using that specific example, would you expect to get significantly fewer PSA 10s from that exact same batch today - maybe even just out of a refusal to grant a 94% Gem rate? I've got a ton of cards to sub and am trying to prepare myself... |

I was looking to submit with the next PSA special, then they did the special for just 2022 or 2023 cards, which seemed like a d1ck move, then they made it $16, which was 100% a d1ck move, any company squeezing an extra $1 out of the consumer when they’re already making money hand over fist isn’t worth my business.
PSA seems determined to dare another TPG take market share, but the whole industry is so corrupt and poorly managed PSA could slab cards they damaged with a lower grade and deny responsibility and still have the customer submit more cards, because this is 100% happening. |

I have actually received better-than-expected grades on almost all of my rare 90's cards that I've submitted. Ultra-modern cards are a total crap shoot. I've received 9s on cards that I've believed are flawless, and 10s on cards with surface issues visible to the naked eye. |

Really need to read the PSA sub thread in the Grading forum to get a feel of how bulk modern grading has been...feedback from people sending in recent submissions. Very mixed results...nothing consistent. Could say that submitters are just not pre-screening their cards enough but long time submitters are sharing very inconsistent grading results too. As for the Soto Update 10s, I would venture to say that most of that 22k 10s were done in 2018-2019. In order to increase their capacity to a million a month, PSA hired a lot of new graders in the past several years which seem to have made the modern grading very inconsistent.

I have to say, I have been submitting on and off since the 90's and other than a few issues, I don't ever see this inconsistent grading so many talk about.
I've gotten older, my eyes have gotten worse and I don't catch everything but if I'm honest with myself, I typically see where there was something I missed. I've been pretty consistent the last 3 years with 70-90% gem rate on new stuff. I had to laugh at all the new people entering the hobby in 2020-21 that were just sending in everything assuming it was going to 10 because it came out of a pack or because they wiped it down with a microfiber cloth. I honestly believe this is where the conspiracy of "pop control" really gained steam. I mean, c'mon... there were thousands of people that didn't know squat about cards to begin with, sending in cards, then when they were getting 30% gem rates b*tching because they knew they were all 10's. These were the same people telling everyone that HGA was going to be the next big thing. I'm pretty old school when sending in cards for grading. But it's this simple and far too many people seem to skip step 6. 1. Pick cards you want to send in. 2. Look them over for obvious issues and centering. 3. Loupe the corners and edges. 4. Put them aside. 5. Come back and look at them again a few days later. 6. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF! 7. Ship your cards off and watch the tracker |

PSA doesn't hand out 10's like they used to. Instead of trying to get greedy, maybe you should've sent them to BGS instead. Guaranteed that you would have received more favorable Gem Mint 9.5's and maybe a few 10's.

I was looking at Jackson Chourio cards thinking that might be a good place to put some hobby $. It's unbelievable. I didn't see a single Beckett graded card for him. Beckett is basically less relevant than keeping a card raw and giving a good description of any condition issues. Unless it is 100% long term pc hold I don't agree that Beckett is a wise slab for ones cards.
