No authentication is ever going to be perfect. The question is whether it's good enough to create some value and, if so, is the value worth the price. Very well said.

Been a while since I've posted any goodies here. I've been taking advantage of the dip in the market to add to my 70s and 80s unopened. These are from the last few months.

Picked up these two sealed packs the other day for $11. Not really sure they count as a financial investment, but more of an investment in nostalgia.

These packs are nostalgic and cool

As for ‘Investment’ consideration - I wish I could go back and take that out of this Threads Title, and just called it a Wax Appreciation Thread ~~~ but I can’t

Advice from the group, please. I’m sitting on 30 boxes of 2022 Chrome Baseball Lite, purchased at MSRP for $99ea + t/s.

The MVP buyback program ends in 8 days. I was hoping Topps would extend the date.

Yes, these boxes already include the SSP’s of Julio, Tork, etc,…but are hard to pull. These boxes aren’t known to have QC issues.

So, would you?

1. Rip all 30 boxes - grade the best stuff, and rapidly send in the Judge/Goldschmidt cards for future credit.

2. Hold these until prices rise, someday, possibly. This is the flagship release for Wander Franco, O’Neil Cruz.

3. Trade them away at $80 per box and just eat it.

4. Other?

I don’t need any Richard-head comments or replies, so if that is your m.o., just scroll by.

Sell/trade them away.

You won't see much appreciation from these and you're missing out on a lot of other opportunities by having funds tied up with these boxes.

And, as you already understand, demand for such wax will lessen once the buyback program ends.

I appreciate that, thank you. I don’t disagree at all.

Not those boxes, there were 7 trillion boxes made. Sell and move on.

Do I trust BBCE, Yes. Do I think they know what they are doing, yes. Does the Pokemon thing stick to them as it should, yes. With that said, this very public 1 deal outweighs 1,000 private deals in the minds of a lot of people. Throw in the 86 Fleer BB box from the National, and things start adding on.

If they didn't have the knowledge to authenticate it, they should have passed on doing it. I get it, it was the chance of a lifetime for all the people involved, but at the same time it was a really risky chance.

Agreed.

One of the big 3 is offering $70 per (PP), I'd move to them ASAP and look out for the next opportunity.

I don’t think this really holds true anymore due to product dilution. Could Jrdod carry a product, probably. Can JROd carry, topps, topps chrome, topps chrome lite, sapphire, Ben Baller, update update chrome, update sapphire, logo fractor, sonic fractor (the other pumped one), topps gilded etc…. Short answer no

Print run to hi and options for people that want JROd rookies will be to high to pay a 3x markup to try and chase a JROd card from Chrome lite

There exists a pool of money that the market will spend on JROd rookie cards. When that pool is spent a supply 10x large as few years ago prices will remain lower for singles and wax prices won’t be able to appreciate long term

Ok. I vote dump them and move on.
Not every product is a win. You'll get the next one.
That's the risky part of buying
Modern...these players aren't proven and there
Is no guarantee any new rookie will pan out.

I agree it’s a fun exercise. I guess the question I have is what price point would you hope for in 20 years for a product like this? Surely 4x would be a substantial loss when weighed against 20 years of inflation and compounded interest. So are you hoping that a topps chrome lite box can do 10-20x over that time frame? While I agree that some rarer or in demand stuff def could that seems like a bit of a reach for a mass produced product that likely nobody will care about in 20 years.
