Default Card sets that were hot that need to go away

I opened some Elite and pulled a Curry Spellbound die cut orange. At one point these cards were different and neat. Now they’re boring and worthless. What are some inserts or sets you’d like to see go away that were once hot?

The non auto'd sneaker spotlight cards in Noir. Never have understood the appeal in them

Annoys me that Poopini used some classic 90's insert names on current/common junk. Pure Players and Prime Twine come to mind.

Agreed. It sullied the name.

It’s like calling something a Jambalaya then have it be a plain rectangle with no special printing.

Retire Color Blast as well.

Can't tell the difference between years on either of these.

The insert sets that ended up being 1 or 2 years and done will fare better in the long run, IMO.

Mosaic....Prizm and Optic are enough shiny. 20 different variations of Mosaic products are not needed.

Oh man. They almost forgot to put any twine in the middle one one. First graders busy with their design apps.

Panini’s takes on prime twine are obviously awful but I’m gona go out on a wild limb and say they were never “hot.”

Fans of Clink, Ting, and Poof are disappointed to learn that their favorites have been deemed "insensitive" and Panini has no plans to add them to the onomatopoeia-verse.

Their version of Skyview are so painfully dull it isn’t even funny.

The fact that a 1996-97 EX-2000 BASE card looks better than nearly all Panini case hits is pretty underwhelming as well. Yes. A base card.

I'm excited for the Mosaic 'Burp' inserts.

Oh, man, forgot about those Skyviews! Just a pure waste of paper.

Yes please. Remember when they were unique? If Panini would have stopped after a year or two, maybe it would have stayed that way.

Also, cards with big ol' sneakers in them.

Agreed. I never really got the appeal. Both of those were pumped hard by the guys buying them during the pandemic which drove prices pretty high, but really nothing special about either. Seems like it was just another “next PMG” fad looking back.

Color blasts are pretty but there is at least 30 of each if not a lot more and the amounts people are expecting for them is insane. Card stock is nice, some of the "blast" patterns are pretty but others just look like a big blob. I have a grand total of one because I found one sane seller in China selling for half of what everyone else lists them for.

As others have said a one or two year run would have been perfect. But leave it to Panini to run something into the dirt. They'll even take an insert like Pacific Marquee that looks pretty interesting in 2017 and absolutely ruin it the next year. Their trash approach of paralleling things to death also ruins a lot of them. I feel like what makes inserts special is having no parallels (or maybe 2 versions if you make them both tough pulls. Like /500 and the rest /50 or something) . Imagine if they did Dunk n Go Nuts back in the day like they did but made them several a box and then did an orange /75, red /50, purple /25, gold /10, green /5, etc.

Nobody would care about regular Go Nuts and the existence of a billion trash Go Nuts would ruin much of the appeal of even the lower numbered. I'd much rather have dope looking inserts with fun designs numbered /500, 100, no parallels, etc. Panini has made zero inerts comparable with Raise the Roof, Voltage 500, etc.

The only stuff that should continue from year to year are certain colored parallels of base cards (black, gold, blue, red, orange, silver, and maybe 1 ice color--blue). The other colored parallels need to stop. No need for any pulsars, bubbles, or waves. Shimmers maybe but if they did away with those, I wouldn't be heart broken.

And agree with what most everyone else has said about inserts. Make them 1-2 year max and then come up with something else. If it's really memorable, release a retro version every 20 years when a new generation of stars plays. So guys would likely have only 1 Kaboom or Color Blast in their careers.

Will it happen? Of course not bc these card companies are trying to squeeze every last short-term drop out of consumers.
