Default How old are Blowout Soccer collectors?

How old are Blowout Soccer collectors? I thought it would be interesting to see following on from a comment in another thread. I remember reading a thread on perhaps the NFL forum on here years and years ago and the average age was around the late twenties to mid thirties. I feel we're a slightly older bunch on Soccer though.

Do you feel like current products are aimed at your demographic?

Do younger members have interest in autos and products that feature lesser known players from before they were born?

Are we talking physical age or mental age?

I am in college and try to spend as little as I can on singles, as most wax is priced for adults with spending money. I am completely okay with that as I am still able to collect my clubs and players within my PC for relatively low prices. I'm not going after the big hitter Musiala cards, for example, rather a nice variety of base/inserts from different collections.

I enjoy collecting older cards, but I won't dive into the Bergmann-Verlag Bundesliga collections and other vintage sets until I have the time and $ to do so. I've picked up cards from the Panini Bundesliga card sets from the 90s for cheap, as well as some other cool older cards like this absolute legend below:

I'm 53....first started collecting soccer cards in the mid-90's thanks to the 1992 Score Italian release and the 1994 World Cup.

51, long time soccer fan, including when it as not easy to be a fan in the US, but very much a collector of recent vintage.

I'm primarily a USMNT collector, but have started to branch out a bit, working on finishing the 2017 Nobility set through the reds. Think there is lot of opportunity for that kind of set, rather than the endless variations that we see today.

I didn't realize anybody came to soccer because of Sapphire, but I guess the "stayed" part is why.

37 here. I'm shocked there's so many people around/over 50, I would have thought the average was close to my age.

Also, I think my comment prompted this thread so it's kinda cool.

28 here.

Thought the soccer thread would be a younger demographic than the other sports!

There's a lot of Europeans in this sub forum I think that's been collecting soccer cards and stickers since the 70's/80's/90's, I generally had the impression it was an older bunch with some younger members from North America.

I am so surprised to see the results of the poll skew older. I'm 52 and I thought most people close to my age collected vintage not modern. But since modern accounts for most of the soccer forum posts, I guess older folks are also collecting the new stuff.

I'm 51 and pretty much exclusively collect modern from CR7/Messi on. I played the game in youth leagues, high school, college and beyond for 3 decades but never watched a game until the 2010 World Cup. It's odd thinking about it that I was around the game every week and the only player I had heard of before that was Pele and I recall hearing about the Zidane headbutt incident. I had never heard of Maradona, Cruyff, Ronaldo, Messi, CR7 or anyone before that World Cup. After watching Portugal versus South Korea I think it was I liked the way Cristiano Ronaldo played and looked him up, saw he played for Real Madrid and started rooting for them.

I didn't start collecting until late 2019 when I bought 4 cases of 17/18 Chrome UEFA from BO for $600 each. I don't have any sort of connection to anyone before 2010 so I have no passion for collecting them outside Zidane since he coached Real Madrid.

Why? I played the game, I didn't watch it. I'd rather do things then watch other people do them in my youth.

In worldwide soccer, it's extremely rare for anyone who has played through college to not watch World Cups until they are in their 30s. It's normally the opposite, even kids who never played soccer watch World Cups in their 20s and 30s.

I think it's different here, I've also met people who played basketball al the way through HS and never watch it.

Kids in the UK have two World Cups under their belt by the time they are 14/15 generally.

The thought of playing a sport for three decades without knowing someone that plays it, or seeing how it's played by professionals just blows my mind.. I mean, even as a pre-teen in the UK I had a basic knowledge of American Football teams like the Raiders and Dolphins, and Basketball, even Baseball.

It's way more common in America. I've gone all my life without knowing anyone that does that but have met a few people here that played for decades but never really followed their sport (not Soccer).

I'm not surprised to see so many older collectors. Like a lot of collectibles fields it takes money and the older folks tend to have disposable income. I'm 63. I collected soccer cards in the 60s as a kid in the UK. Been in the states over 40 years now and was heavily into baseball, football, and hockey starting in the late 80s but only into soocer collecting for a couple years.
