Default Do you think we’ll ever see another knuckleballer?

I’ve always enjoyed watching knuckleball pitchers. Will we ever get another Wakefield or Niekro? Looks like there was a 33 year old rookie that threw a knuckleball that got to pitch 3 innings in 21’ for the Orioles but outside of that I think Steven Wright is the last one we’ve gotten to see on a regular basis.

R. A. Dickey also didn’t retire all that long ago. Somebody else will come through.

Ever is a long time. We'll definitely get another at some point, but my guess is it'll come from an older guy trying to hang on to one last shot in the majors, rather than someone coming up as a knuckleballer, given how big an emphasis on throwing hard there is these days

This is the answer. Could even be a position player trying to hold on and transitioning to pitcher and picks up the knuckler

I think there are a couple in the minors now. Mickey Jannis pitched in one game for Orioles in 2021 but it looks like he got hit hard in independent leagues last year. As long as there is Wakefield or someone around to pass on the knowledge there will always be someone in the minors on the verge of being out of professional baseball that will experiment with the knuckleball as a last ditch effort to save their career.

Things always go in cycles. We will for sure see more. Someone needs a good knuckleballer in the pen between a couple of flame throwers.

Maybe there will be a bunch once pitchers have all thrown their arms out multiple times
