I’d rather have an 8.5 than an authentic personally

Sorry to bump a 3 week old thread. When submitting this card to PSA, is this the "DG Only" designated card (dual grade, yeah?).

1994 Upper Deck Mickey Mantle/Ken Griffey Jr. Autograph-D.G. Only

I have a rather rare situation in which mine has already been authenticated by JSA (in a BGS holder), but I would prefer to have it in a PSA slab, so going to do a crossover on the authentication, but want to be sure I'm picking the right card in the submission form. Based on the dozens of examples I see, I think this would be somewhere between a 7 and an 8 at PSA, but I'm just getting it authenticated by PSA/DNA (though I'd be happy with an 8).

Browsing the ‘94 UD dual autos currently on eBay…and I can’t help but notice some variety in KGJ’s signature style, whereas Mick’s is super consistent.

Is there any way, whatsoever in telling if he auto’d after the card was pulled from the pack, as opposed to being a true dual auto direct from the factory? Or perhaps more importantly, does it even matter from a value standpoint?

Was listening to the Sports Card Live podcast today and the most recent episode brought on a major distributor from the 90s. He mentioned that there was one Griffey/Mantle in every case and you could figure out which box had the card just by the box and image details. Is this common hobby knowledge? If so, would think there are very few cards still in boxes at this point. I was thinking about grabbing a few boxes over the past couple years but glad I didnt with this info. Did a quick google search but couldnt find any related info.

I have a really hard time believing those were one per case back then, given the print runs.

Curious, there’s a copy on EBAY with a UDA COA card, I thought these were pack pulled?

This would mean only 60,000 boxes were produced? Seems fairly low in my opinion.

Randomly inserted into Series One 1994 retail packs were 3,000 Ken Griffey, Jr./Mickey Mantle autographed cards. UD had each player sign 2,000 cards -- 1,000 individually and 1,000 dual-signed cards. The Griffey/Mantle dual autograph is considered by many to be one of the greatest autographed baseball cards of the 1990s. Each card has an Upper Deck Authenticated holographic sticker on the reverse side. These cards were found in standard retail boxes (not jumbo or mini-jumbos). Copies of the dual Griffey/Mantle Auto was later sold by Upper Deck direct via Upper Deck Authentics and a limited number were packed out as a buyback in 2008_Upper_Deck_Spectrum.

For dual auto'd version that comes with matching COA card, these were likely issued later as a redemption via UD authentics (per baseballcardpedia.com).

Does anyone know which card series/set these were issued as a redemption? Trying to pinpoint time period (ie 2002/2003) - Griffey autos on these look authentic but definitely later date auto. Thanks,

Listened to this Sports Card Live podcast (July 2, 2022 episode) and the distributor said he there was 1 auto card (Mantle, Griffey, or Dual) per case of the 1994 Upper Deck Series II Hobby boxes - not the Series I retail where these cards were broadly distributed. He said there was a difference in cellophane wrapping for boxes with auto card among Hobby box case...

Do you mean the Series 1 Hobby Box. I have one it it has sticker mentioning Mantle Heroes or Auto of or Griffey/Mantle. The Series II Hobby don’t even mention the autos. I also thought they were inserted in the mini retail jumbo box which was 24 packs instead of the usual 36? I sold this about a year ago.

So you are saying these boxes with the Auto could be cherry picked? I’ll post the Hobby one I have later.

You can see a visible difference between the ones signed back at release, and the ones that just had MM auto and KGJ signed later on.

Last I spoke with a rep from UD on this was that the true number that made into release was never made public, and they had been far from a case hit due to the rarity of these cards.

To the OP, I wouldn't bother attempting to cross over. Not worth the anxiety.
