Ouch.

To be fair, most of this loss happened pre-drug bust. As a Topps Rookie card collector, I’ve watched Topps base rookies in general—Acuna, Soto, even Vlad NNO have all crashed this summer from market saturation + current lower demand. Tatis was under $100 when the news came out, so that’s closer to a 50% drop than a 90% on this card.

But even in that example, we would still need to find out how much of that 50% loss was exclusively due to the Tatis drug bust news? Soto and Acuna are down the last month as well simply from below normal performance to go along with the same over-saturated market + current lower demand for Topps base RC’s.

Age matters...younger prospects/stars have a bit more margin for error, down seasons, injuries, suspensions. If he was a few years older, there would have been a lot more selloffs/greater discounted prices. He will be on a short stick next season though in terms of hobby love.

It will be interesting to see next season just how much his stuff rebounds, that is, if he performs really well and doesn't get injured again.

I think his ceiling card prices have definitely dropped significantly. There is a certain segment of the collecting public that absolutely will not, under no circumstances, have any desire to buy his cards ever again.

Then there is the flipping segment of the hobby that sees his current prices as a buy low situation with a lot lower risk than last year's inflated prices.

I would say there would be a very, very low if not zero percent chance his psa 10 topps 410 will ever be a $350 card consistently ever again. Nor do I feel we see his psa 10 2016 bowman chrome base auto hit $11,000 ever again.

2016 bowman chrome auto bgs 9.5 now at $950 - when was the last time these sold that low? The baseball regular season isn't even over yet.

How much lower will these go in the cold of winter?

Cold Winter, a worse economy vs today's, plus no ST bump (since he wont be starting the season). Not to mention the only bumps people get in season (these days) is if they are playing out of their mind. He has multiple more drops to come before he even sees the field...much less playing well. And he wont have any hype around winning any awards next year.

Yeah, red sold for $225k, orange $80k, gold $60k.

There’s a gold on eBay that no one wants to touch at $15k.

With base auto bgs less than $1k, blue is less than $3k which makes a gold about $9k, but does anyone even want to bite at that price?

It’s an 85% discount.

He got it for really cheap, so he’ll still come out fine.

The exact same 2016 tatis red chrome auto that sold for $225k last year was flipped down to $156k - only a $70k loss for the previous owner.

Shocked that a roider card would still sell for so high.

The orange jersey number auto tanked to $30k, and the gold tanked to $11k, as expected, but still some serious cash for a roider.

Especially the red - six figures!

Went from one flipper who cried uncle to another flipper who thinks he knows better than everyone else.

It’s obviously not a tatis or baseball card lover buying these cards - it’s clear evidence investorz are the ones playing hot potato with these commoditiez!

Good to know the moon bois are alive and well.

Remember when the biggest Tatis debate was RC #401 (horizontal throwing) vs RC Debut (vertical hitting).

Someone, or a small group, bit the bullet to keep the entire “high end” market from tanking. They’re willing to take small, incremental hits until the card becomes relatively worthless.

At least the playoff run knocked some games off the suspension

Kim was serviceable but I'm ready for Nando to return.

Haha, yeah, at one point in time it was $350 for the horizontal versus $200 for the RD.

Now it’s do I even bother spending $35 for the horizontal psa 10 to “dollar cost average down” or $15 for the RD, or do I buy a Big Mac meal instead, LOL.

Rough day for Padre apologists.

At least Tatis bois can afford a meal and a rookie card these days without breaking the bank.

How many games does Tatis have left to serve, 30ish?

It's closer to 20, which means that sometime in mid-April he goes back on the IL for whatever injuries he sustains during spring training.

I don’t think Tatis is going to play SS when he returns. I think they’re going to keep him in the OF. But, obviously, no one knows for sure yet.

….. by age 23, he’s had 2 wrist surgeries, 1 shoulder surgery, and a career altering PED Violation. Just think how long this list may be by the time he’s 35!

I think your right, he may be done by 30. Good chance in 15-20 years he will be on the list of biggest hobby busts

He obviously has talent - how much was due to roids' we'll see next year

What he lacks is common sense...the motorcylce accident, not getting shoulder surgery, playing soccer in the outfield while on the DL (and falling)

He's got an injury and optics problem. Hopefully he can turn things around but its a long shot

Yah. It's the same shoulder injury that turned Bellinger into a pumpkin as well.
