That Tim Burton card is great. Beyond that promo and various base cards, Tim's actually on a foil chase card in the Inkworks "Sleepy Hollow" set from 1999, which is pretty unusual.

Being a promo card collector is like being a jack of all trades and a master at none. I was not aware that Burton appeared on his own cards in Sleepy Hollow. I'll try to restrict my comments to the stuff I know really well, from now on.

I own a couple of somewhat uncommon promo cards for that set, including a yellow, metal one. Strange looking thing.

Your knowledge is terrific, and I love your posts and pictures. I was just noting that it's pretty unusual for a crew member to appear on any chase card in a movie set. For "Sleepy Hollow", Burton was part of a 3 card connecting image (and a pretty gruesome one at that) within a larger 9 card foil set, the rest of which featured characters from the film.
Here it is:

Now, back to regularly scheduled Pro-mo-king collection gallery posts...

Is there any director who has had more of his (or her) movies made into card sets than Tim Burton?
Batman, Batman Returns, Mars Attacks, Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride?

Too bad there's no Pee Wee's Big Adventure, or Beetlejuice.

I think Spielberg is probably in the 8-10 range but yeah….Burton movies just seem to be fit for trading card accompaniment. Some may be surprised to hear that George Lucas has only had 4 directed films made into card sets.

On the topic of Burton, I heavily collect 1989 Topps Batman in all of its incarnations. I own a few "promotional" stamped cards from series two. Do you have any info on their origin, distribution, etc? Do you any info or samples of any promotional items for that set?

Thanks!

I have 6 slightly oversized cards from either 1989 or 1990 which were inserted in action figure packages from that era. There is also a promotional "Batman movie special" card issued for the movie. These cards have heavy glossy finishes.

To the best of my recollection, and I could be wrong, if these cards you own are NOT factory stamped with the words "promotional", but rather rubber stamped in ink, they were randomly stamped with that description on the back, but they are identical to the cards in the series.

These are termed "sample" cards and the staff would simply grab a random stack and apply the stamp before distribution.

Note: the first 6 cards are subject to heavy glue residue and staining from being held in place with tape inside the packages. Cards without those flaws command a premium as most which weren't removed early on, will develop the flaws.

Thank you for this information, very helpful.

Do you have pictures of these 6 oversized promotional items and the "batman movie special" card?

Here are images of 3 extra ones I have. When I get the better condition ones from my collection out of storage, I'll take pictures of all those mentioned above.

Thank you. Those are really cool. Do you have any distribution info? For these or the six other 1989 Batman cards? I have never seen any cards packed with the kenner figures so I'm wondering if they were included with a different toy line.

The images are of 3 of the 6 slightly OS cards inserted in the Action Figures. I don't really know how many of the plush Figures were made, but I remember those packaged toys with the cards in them selling for around $50 back then. That was over 30 years ago!

There is a set of 3 standard size Batman Hologram cards from around that same era which were also included in another toy set. Those cards are super cool because they have the Kenner logo right on them.

*****The next 3 sets of images are of exceedingly rare cards. In the mid-1990s, Collect-A-Card obtained the coveted Coca-Cola license and issued 4 staggered series of cards covering every aspect of the giant beverage company.

There were several levels of chase cards issued for each release but a few of the boxes, contained a certificate which could be redeemed for a gold card. Series 1 had 2 different character gold cards, Santa and Honus Wagner. Each character card was limited to 500. The next 3 series had 1 gold character card, each limited to 1,000.

The company also issued Artist Proof cards for each series. These were given to Collect-A-Card executives and other VIPs. There were only 10 Artist proof cards made for each series 1 through 4. Here are 3 of them:

Although this next card is not an Artist Proof of the Series 1 Santa gold card, it is serial numbered 000 and is 1 of 1:

*****The next image is also of an extremely rare promo card for the 1994 Skybox Master Series Creators Edition. It is the Biohazard PO card. Ther are rumored to be less than 5 in existence and the probable number is 3 based upon my research. Note: this is an image of a signed copy. Mine is unsigned and in the vault.

*****The next set of images depicts some of the fronts and backs of 2 different 5 card prototype sets issued by Cornerstone in 1998 for a planned, licensed Rolling Stones band card set that never was. Each card in the sets has either color differences or subtle hues variations between it and its corresponding doppelganger.

Only the promo cards exist, and they were discovered after the company closed down shortly after they were printed. Extremely rare pieces of Rock N' Roll history. Less than a handful of each card has been found.

This is an astonishing collection!

I should thank you for selling me the 2014 Joe Jusko Marvel Masterpieces Spiderman promo card on Ebay.

They are getting quite hard to find and are the only sub $1000 copy of the card #90 artwork available for the set.

Thank you very much and you're welcome. It's been built over 30 years of devotion to this awesome hobby of non sport cards. I keep learning things about the world of pop culture just by reading the backs of cards!!!

I remember selling you that card. I don't sell much but that'll probably change next year as I'm hoping to retire then. So, I'll have more time to list things. Now, that I know I can just copy the image from my photobucket account and post the link here, I'll be showing(off) many more rare promo cards. Stay tuned!
