$12k is still too much for a $50 card.

12,463 posts is too much for someone that doesn't actually ever provide content or substance...

I mentioned this previously in another thread, but I think it bears repeating here. If you are currently looking to sell any middle to higher end cards, you are taking a MASSIVE risk running them at auction. Your best bet is to either just continue to hold in your collection, or if you really need/want to sell, then I would only go with a negotiated sale. You want to be able to control the variables, not let something get auctioned off into a soft market, during the summer holidays. As always, just my opinion.

Running into this very same issue (auction or no auction) with a big card I have so I've been keeping an eye on Goldin and PWCC's most recent, and it's not encouraging. May just vault/fixed price with one of them instead. Haven't done that before so curious what others experiences have been like.

I cannot comment on using any of the vault services, but I am certain some of the other members here can. What I can do is offer a couple of suggestions, the first of which would be repeating what I said previously, and you quoted. Selling anything at auction right now is taking a huge risk, and your card could easily sell for a fraction of what you believe it is worth.

The idea of selling by fixed price/negotiated sale is good, but there is another point you should keep in mind. It has been my experience that currently, people are only looking for "steals", and this type of listing will bring them out of the woodwork. I am not talking lowball offers, I am talking offers of $150 for cards where the last sale was $1,800. I am sure that there are many members who have been having the exact same experience, and it has been mentioned in many threads in many of the sub-forums.

The final point, and this is only a matter of opinion. You need to be careful about the card getting "stale" in the market. What I mean is a listing that just sits and sits without a sale. When this happens people will begin to look past the card and forget about it. I am sure you have done it many times yourself on Ebay, where you see the same cards day after day, week after week, month after month. Even though you may have had an interest, by virtue of the fact that they just sit there, interest slowly wanes.

Overall, it is just a very tough time to sell good cards. Unless it is a situation where you absolutely have to sell, or maybe you are redeploying the funds into another card(s) at lower prices, then I would tend to just hang tight for the time being.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Regards

I think there are likely multiple reasons for the drop in price achieved, some specific to this card, some more related to the card market/soccer card market in general.

I think this post is very important for people thinking about using a consignment service.

Unless you have a one of a kind spectacular card that is going to draw multiple bidders, DON'T do it.

There is too much variance in realized prices, which people mistakingly (these reps are salesmen people!) use as comps for their cards. I've seen it time and time again. X sold for a lot. Y should sell for the same. Don't fall for it people!

Hang tight for what? The rebound? Most of these cards will never see anything close to their previous highs. Time is money. If you have no plans to keep the card, get out now.

That is a big drop. However, I believe this is more related to the overall market trend.

My comment was made from the point of view as a collector. Maybe my point was not clear. As a collector, if you do not need the money, and do not have another card you are looking to roll into, then just keep what you have and be happy. As an investor on the other hand, maybe it is a different story. I do agree that the previous highs we saw will not be seen again anytime soon. Beyond that, what you have and what your goals are will determine how you proceed. The soccer card market is so broad, with so many niches, and even the same card in different grades can be hot and cold at the same time. Look at the recent bump Haaland cards have seen. PSA 10 Bundesliga Refractors went from a $2,200 sale on the 20th August, to a last sale of $5,800 on the 17th September. That is +$3,600 in less than 30 days. As an investor, was blowing out that card at $2,200 a great "Time is money" move?

Regards

Current bid is 10k. I assume it’s in Premier because they think it can go over 25k. Any guesses as to where this one lands?
Hope you sold yours before this.

That card didn't dip it went straight off a cliff.
