It's gone from $350 a box to $225 in less than 10 days. That's down 35%. I am not an economist but that doesn't sound like a product that's "selling". Perhaps distributors should torch their warehouses to prove a point?

Lack of knowledge and impulse control.

It will burn itself out naturally with a little time.

My impulsive control isn't the best either but I at least can generally aim it in a less destructive direction.

They pulled the hobbys and jumbos shortly after the announcement. They might be repackaging them with the silver packs.

The baseball market typically hits it's nadir in November. This was true even in the 2021-2022 cycle.

When it starts to climb has varied over the years. This year it didn't really start to climb until March. In 2018 and 2019 we were seeing broad based price increases by January. I didn't track in 2020. Then there was the craziness of the 2020-2021 offseason.

This year I'm expecting (hoping) for more of a return to normalcy. Bottom out in a month or six weeks, stay fairly flat (on extremely low volume) through the holidays, then start a fairly steep climb from mid January through Opening Day.

Looking at my Price Index from late July, 2019;

Vald was $525
Tatis was $375
Alonso was $350
Devers and Eloy were $175.

Those top 3 would not surprise me that they were getting sent in for grading at a profit since Devers was on the border for me. They were all in the top 10 out of the 65-70 guys I tracked that year and all hot.

For 2022 J-Rod reaches that level for sure. Wander is at the borderline and falling quicker than the market so he may not be there by the time the cards come back. Witt is not close. Nobody reached that level in 2021 at release or otherwise. Nobody is currently at the level from 2020, although LouBob might have been there at release. Nobody will be there for the 2023 guys unless Jordan Walker gets a surprise early call up...and runs hot.

That all just goes to show how strong the 2019 class was (and 2018 for that matter!). Devers himself was not up to the level though and he was having a huge year (like .330/25/90 at the time I made the decision).

Eloy would be interesting. I know he was graded like crazy in 2020 and 2021, but I wonder about 2019? His BCA was a similar price to Devers, but I wonder if his 2019 stuff got a newness bump and did get sent in? Or was he an afterthought that started getting graded when the market really started to explode?

It could also be that the 2018-2019 RC classes fueled the whole grade base boom. In fact it almost certainly did with the amount of high end talent from those two years. The only question is did the boom start immediately after I decided not to check those Devers?

To be clear, the top top guys are always going to get their base graded. When I think of the easy profit days I'm thinking of the time where you could profit on players other than the elite.

FWIW, one of the main reasons I think grading prices are gong to fall is if someone as strong as Yordan (or Witt, if you prefer) is not worth it to grade their base, then there is no way PSA is going to be able to fill its capacity. The question to me is how far down the list do they need to go?

A lot of people are saying their codes don’t work. Generally Ive seen it take up to a week but this seems longer than normal historically.

Go hang out on reddit for 5 minutes, they're ripping blasters like there's no tomorrow. And half of them do it in their car, post a pic of their Wanders and ask what it's worth.

So I guess to answer your question, most people are uninformed and short sighted. This hobby attracts folks with gambling problems and Topps knows it.

Congrats on that hit! I would wait 1-2 weeks and try again. I’ve heard that sometimes the redemption codes aren’t active until like a month after the release. If it still doesn’t work then, call Topps and they’ll probably have you mail it in.

Hey all, what am I missing here, Hobby Lite are basically the only product to contain the ESPs, why are they still available on topps website. Too many people burned by hobby and jumbo to care?
