I couldn’t agree more. I just collect for fun and seek out cool/unique cards, and I have zero interest in base cards. Basic refractors are as low as I go these days, and even then I find them a bit boring.

My secret has been found out. I thought I was the only one that thought that way.

With flagship prints runs approaching 1 million plus almost 200,000 chrome plus everything else the “total” print across all products has to be north of 2 million. That rivals 1986/1987 level production with the sum of Topps, Fleer, Donruss which was at the vanguard of the junk wax era. https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=281357

Also there are less collectors then there was then. We are in a junk wax era no matter what the flippers and pumpers want you to believe.

Any sightings of 100 count lot of Wander RC? A bit tangential to Chrome, but not completely.

Have been wondering if there are Prism refractors this year?

Finally remembered why I don’t have any Pinks from last year - no more hangers for Chrome now, it appears. Don’t enjoy them quite enough to get them from $45 blasters. Ditto X-fractors from Megas.

But if Prisms fall at a guaranteed rate in blasters, just when I thought I was out…

As someone who just recently got back into collecting and just joined here this thread has been great entertainment.

Yes and there are a billion of them.

Topps Chrome has made Refractors the new base. Legit junk wax 2.0

One per blaster it seems. Way easier and cheaper to just buy singles though.

Speaking of blasters, being a Canadian collector continues to be a chore.

Only place to get blasters is Walmart, and they're listed for $54.92 cdn (over $40 US).

Breadlines for dealers?

Maybe we should start a fundraiser to raise funds to help them when they need it.

Ya back when they were 30 cad it was tolerable, but not a chance would I pay 55 for these!! I have a feeling they're going to be sitting there for a long time.

Yup ….. this is the wrong Product to pay record Blaster prices for. There’s nothing wrong with Blasters per se, it’s just “these” Blasters…..

Is Fanatics ever going to stock blasters again? They haven't been in stock since very briefly the day before release.

I figured I could pick up 3 blasters from Fanatics to get my pink refractor fix - at least I can use some discounts and get them for less than $35 each...but not if they never come in stock.

It's not a junk wax era we are in, but a junk base era. The difference is in the real junk wax era, there was nothing but base in boxes, thus making the wax worthless. Today there is more than base, and even though the parallels are out of control, there is still something valuable to chase in wax. So the wax will have some value regardless. But we are definitely in a junk base era where there is more value in heating your home by burning you base than keeping it.

In my opinion, the closing of the PSA was the tipping point for base. Up until then, people could grade base and make an easy profit. Once that option was suspended the interest in base waned, which was largely driven by those submitting to grade.

Was at Walmart today and the shelves were loaded with chrome. Stocking day was Wednesday. This crap will certainly end up clearance.

Thanks for the, uhh, deet.

One reason I buy a little retail is to check out cards, in-hand, before coughing up my hard-earned 64˘ for one on COMC. But $45 US just to see a single Prism in-hand, probably not.

Where I live there haven’t been any discounted baseball cards on a shelf since the spring of 2019, when mass quantities of Ohtani-san packages of all sorts, covered in a faint smattering of dust, were pulled back out of the stores, rather than let me casually buy a few at 40% off, as in olden times. Last winter the shelves managed to hold > 12 baseball card products at once but by Memorial Day they were all gone, replaced by a half-dozen blasters of Gypsy Queen blasters no one wants, some 21 Prism Draft Baseball, and an avalanche of Hockey cards, all summer long. S2 shows up for a few days occasionally, and Football seems halfway there with some 22 product at least. But soon it will be time to move all those Hockey Cards back to the warehouse for online sales, just in time for NHL Opening Day, cuz there’s a whole bunch of brand new baseball cards needing somewhere to gather dust. But no discounts, For You!

I seem to remember insert chase cards by at least ‘91 or ‘92… and I believe that became quite common through the ‘90s…

Still junk wax

My two walmarts were loaded with chrome yesterday.

Checked them out today----both absolutely empty. I'm thinking most people didn't get the memo this is a dud product.

One of my friends sent me a text he bought 4 blasters. Then I told him about the "sp" rookies---he had no idea they weren't included. He was pissed.
