Default Getting a new TV/streaming service - Thoughts?

So, I'm having knee surgery at the end of September and will need to move to a different bedroom in our house. Of course, this means I will have to get a new tv to use in that room. Here is what I am thinking...

1. I currently use Amazon Firestick in our other TV's. I'm not a fan. Should I switch to Apple TV for the new TV or do you all use a different service?

2. If switching to Apple TV for the new TV, any recommendations on a 40" (or so) TV that would work well with Apple TV?

Just about every TV nowadays is a SmartTV where you can add whatever apps / subscription services you want. I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, AppleTV, and Peacock, and stream it through any device in the house simply by adding the app and logging in to the account for that particular service.

If you're getting a new TV, some of them come with a trial period for a streaming service. The TV in our living room is a Samsung, and Apple TV was suddenly free for three months.

Instead of getting an amazon branded Smart TV that automatically has the FireTV interface, get Samsung/LG or whatever brand. They all let you add whatever streaming service you want plus you can add PrimeTV (Amazon) to the new tv. You can also add game apps, PLEX, weather and stuff like that too.

Apple TV's are just like an iPhone or iPad. Very proprietary.

So is there a difference between getting the Apple TV plugin or just downloading the Apple TV app on the Smart TV?

I don't believe so. I believe it's all access to the same streaming service, no more, no less.

I honestly use my PS5 as my streaming device. I have Amazon TV as well as built in streaming on my TV, but PS5 has always been the cleanest for me (except for Vudu which seems to screw up sometimes on there).

Note: For some unknown reason,
LG smart TVs don't offer the ESPN+ app.

I got rid of Dishnetwork a few months ago and went with Firestick. Subscribed to YouTube TV and we are very happy with it. Get all locals, all college football, MLB and great selection of shows. Also, the cloud DVD is a plus. Right at $71 per month is the cost but have three tvs throughout the house, each independent, and really enjoy it.

I too agree that Youtube TV is a great option! But I ended up dropping it also and just stream on different apps. Although sometimes I debate about going back to Youtube TV, I hear Hulu is good also and comes with Espn+ & Disney +, may have HBO Max also but can't remember. It just a tab bit more than Youtube but only by a few dollars.
