Just want to throw it out there about this "worst season ever" that you have the most unique, dynamic player in a century in his prime having a monster season and also possibly the pitcher with the greatest prime of all time currently in that prime(DeGrom)

Don't forget the Dodgers on pace to be only the 7th team ever to have 110 wins and a small chance at breaking the all time win record of 116

There's a real chance to break the single season HR and win records. But hey, boring season

see my post.

I don't think OP said anything about boring.

It's actually been a great season, but the buzz is lukewarm at best, which is a shame because there has been some fantastic stories.

I'm really rooting for Albert to hit 700 HR's.

No, the answer is 1994. This year is not even close.

Buzz is lukewarm to who? This board because their cards arent going up? How can you have fantastic stories and chases of all time records but the "buzz" be lukewarm? Is that not the definition of buzz?

I am enjoying this Season for one main reason- it almost didn’t happen!
Remember the gloom and doom of the inevitable lock-out / strike / cancelled season due to the huge gap between MLB and the MLBPA? All of sudden - poof! An agreement was reached against all odds, and it was time to Play Ball. This is the Season that was on life support for Months - and yet here we are

Genuinely curious what more would've needed happen for the season to be buzzworthy that's unrelated to card prices

Judge better pick up the pace if he's going to have a shot at 74 homers

the injuries suck, that's for sure.

but i've enjoyed seeing Atlanta doing a pretty decent job this season staying in contention and seeing them call up Grissom and Michael Harris.

also seeing JRod, Goldy's resurgence in St. Louis, Pujols hopefully hitting 700 HRs, and Judge chasing 61 has been pretty awesome.

Judge not cooling off
the economy not slipping
wander/julio not getting hurt
Tatis not doing PEDS
rookies not living up to expectations
covid restrictions relaxed, resulting in more people doing non baseball related activities

again. Not slamming baseball. Love it. Just being honest.

Non really, but when the rookies have been killing it for the last few years, 2021 and 2022 have been a slight letdown.

I agree with this. Well said.

I would put 1994 (extremely damaging strike, numerous records could have fallen, the Expos never recovered, etc.) at #1, and 2020 (COVID-19 uncertainty hanging over everything, 60 game "regular season", illegitimate World Series*, etc.) at #2.

But I doubt 2022 is the worst.
1968 - The Year of the Tiger !

Two of the greatest ever - Johnny Bench and Nolan Ryan were rookies. Most likely the last 30 game winner in MLB history. The last year the pitching mound wasn’t 2 feet higher! The final time MLB was just AL & NL, it became divisional in 1969.

You mean the big hobby money rookies have been disappointing?

The 3 Braves rookies have been exceeding expectations by a mile

Judge is in a walk year -- contract drive.

Those other guys either already got the big bucks or, in the case of Vlady, regressed to being merely good.

Judge is about to break Maris' single season HR record and Mets are playing Amazin ball. That's all I can really ask for. You all would enjoy baseball much more if you listen to the SNY feed of every Mets game. A joy to behold.

Dang players… don’t they care about cards?? God, I mean serious, don’t they know how much people have spent on BCAs, RPAs, slabs, autos, PCs, wax cases, breaks and auctions? The nerve of these jerks to not perform so that we can all get paid!
I’m writing a letter to the commissioners office.

He hasn't hit one in 9 straight games. He only has 4 this month. He needs 16 more. The Yankees play 40 more games. I don't think it's a certainty he gets it.

For comparison, Giancarlo Stanton had 51 headed into September in 2017 and finished with 59.

Congrats to the Judge Bois though. Sold my nice cards of his years ago.
You forgot Harper mashing and off to an MVP start and getting his thumb disintegrated.

I remember 1988 being a dud. Kirk Gibson won the NL MVP after batting .290 with 25 HR and 76 RBI. Although, I guess he gave us a pretty memorable HR in the postseason.

It was also the year Canseco went 40/40, giving us a prelude to the steroid era. And Chris Sabo and Walt Weiss were the ROY’s.

Meh.
