Russell is nowhere near close to the top of the list. He hated signing autos for years. Even his Panini print runs were limited.

Even if this number for Kobe was correct, compare it to how many autos draft picks/rookies are signing these days.

I had read that Zion was contracted to sign somewhere in the order of 20,000 - 30,000 card autos and that was just his rookie year.

So if Kobe had 41,000 over his whole career, Zion could pass that mark in just his second or third year in the league.

I do also remember that MJ had signed around 20,000 - 25,000 autos across his career which isn't a huge amount.

AD and KD seemed to never stop signing for Panini.

But I'd reckon, unscientifically, Mark or Reggie Jackson. Maybe a lil Bill Laimbeer. Artis Gilmore? Jarrett Allen? Magic? Steve Kerr?

Despite some high signature numbers for some, some combinations are pretty rare overall. E.g. Jordan/Bryant/James triple autos only have 140-150 produced. Probably explains the prices they're going for.

I don’t get why his autos are so pricey. I’m a fan, and he was great but is it really sensible that some of his Exquisite auto/patch cards sell for 6 figures?

Jordan is to Upper Deck as Kobe is to Panini

MJ has a TON of autos out there and then when you include the camp signed stuff, it's a lot.

The Admiral has also signed a lot.

hoarding, hyping, price fixing

there are guys who actually pay stupid money to get stuff for their collections, but it would never have reached a certain point without the aforementioned

Jordan is one example I can sort of understand. He hasn’t signed an NBA licensed card in 12+ years. Supply may seem high but it’s not getting any higher and demand remains strong. You can lump the college Exq stuff and Goodwin stuff in there if you want but people want and will pay more for the Bulls autos. That supply is fixed for the time being and may never increase again. Likewise for his game used stuff. Even if UD got the license back tomorrow I can’t see them shelling out today’s prices to go out and buy new game jerseys to cut up. Cards like the Exq patch autos SHOULD be expensive because they’ll never be made again.

I’m not even a bball guy and I’d love to own his auto but I’d only be interested in a Bulls card so it’s never going to happen.

The issue is really all of the other prices of vintage that have happened.

If Jordan never signs again, than his Autos will continue to go nuts, especially of highly collected sets like Exquisite.

Vintage prices are just wild. So you apply that to the best stuff from the 90s and 00s of Michael Jordan and as nuts as some of the pricing is, we will see constant bumps in prices.

I know those of us that have been around a long while hate the thought of it, but I just don't see it ever getting any better.
