I keep waiting for someone here to show off their bid confirmation on the SGC 9.5 Mantle!

Some of my bulk CSG items. The Winfield I got raw on COMC for $13.99! Getting a 8.5 on a 1962 was a pleasant surprise. It is a beautiful card.

Nice cards Dan,

I’m still trying to figure out which vintage cards like in the new CSG slabs. The Yogi and Carmichael clearly work, but I kind of like the way Seaver looks too.

The cards all look great IMO, the slabs are growing on me. Still think they should have made the label smaller and redesigned the slab to accommodate a smaller label. I would like more space between the card and the label personally.

The cards that bother me are the ones in plastic sleeves. I know that some of the cards like my early Bowman would get a sleeve, but these are cards that were worth grading at $10.80 and not over $20 at SGC. SGC/PSA looks much better with T206 and early Bowman cards, but not $20 better. Some of my cards like the Winfield/Carmichael got a plastic sleeve for some reason. That bothers me a lot!

Going forward, I will be waiting for SGC to grade vintage that is not 2.5 by 3.5 inches. I really prefer junk wax to modern in CSG though, even more than PSA. PSA lost my business as a collector and I will slowly transition my collection to CSG/SGC. After waiting 15 months for cards, PSA would really have to change for me to use them again. I don't give a crap about ROI. I just want cards graded decently in stated turnaround times.

There is one thing CSG grades poorly in my opinion. They are very lenient on bad corners once grades get below a CSG 7. The only cards I felt they over graded from my bulk order were cards that had good centering and surface but had corner issues. If you want the best grades for your vintage, send the cards with bad centering to PSA, bad corners to CSG, and avoid SGC if you want a high grade.

Two for my Frank Robinson raw run came in over the weekend. Nothing special, but I love 'em.

Was that 1958 Robinson the one on eBay in a screwdown holder with a slanted picture? If it was, I was watching it and when the price dropped to $32 I went to buy, and it just sold. It looks like a beautiful card!

It was. (they even shipped it in the screwdown)

I really felt like the condition was too good at that price.

That image did nothing for that card. It is an absolute stunner! Always a risk for those screwdowns, but I have had success with them. That was a great steal. If the seller took it out and took great pictures, they could have gotten a much higher price.

Great pickups! Gustomania can pick up the best looking PSA 2's out there.

I have a feeling we will continue to see a rise in vintage cards for a while now. All the big influencers are trending that way and their audiences will mimic their buying. SCI bought a 1951 Bowman Mantle and I believe all the 1933 Goudey Ruth's. Jabs bought a PSA 1952 Topps PSA 1 for $40,000+. Even Packman who never buys vintage got a 1969 Kareem rookie. I am seeing more and more influencers and YouTubers getting out of modern and going into early Bowman, 1933 Goudey, T206, etc...

my favorite 58' card is my Hank Aaron, and he's only 24 when the picture was taken. the whole world in front of him, very cool stuff.

Is there a big crease or paper loss on the back? What makes this a PSA 1? Nevertheless it is a beautiful card

My first vintage card. Will not be my last. Apart from Tom Brady I’ve been looking at nothing but 1950’s vintage.
