I think the goal was just to get people to be less naive while out and about. But, I would not discourage people from walking around the main areas + boardwalk during the day. That's all good...just be aware of your surroundings.

I understand that this 3x4 block radius is not large and venturing outside of it is risky, but nobody is getting killed or robbed in between a Nike store and a Ruth's Chris in daylight surrounded by tons of other convention attendees on a busy street. You make it sound like its a 3 mile walk through Flint.
Not a stretch at all. I have been to AC plenty of times. I am a degenerate gambler. The ONLY hotels that fit your description of a 1/2 mile and through the mall (its outdoors as well, for those that do not know) is Ballys, Caesars/WWW and Claridge.

Most people will be staying at Showboat, where it is almost always the cheapest (lots of room, no stores or casino). That is almost 2 miles away, and a good 30 minutes on foot. Same with Resorts, Hard Rock, Oceans ETC.

Tropicana is a popular option as well, but that's still 1.5 miles from the Convention center.

AC is not the Vegas Strip. Really nothing is connected, and even the casinos have a good distance between them.

Your route is correct. Head through the mall area, as left or right are some rough neighborhoods. And get to the Boardwalk, and use that to get to wherever you are staying.

Pro Tip, taxi rates are capped at $13 max within AC proper. Well worth it. The only downside is, not many taxis hang around the convention center.

Zipper/luggage padlocks might not be a bad idea for those concerned about this. And if you get one with a combination lock you can just use it as a deterrent or set it one number off...that way you don't have to grab a key every time.

Yeah, I think a lot of people think AC is the east coast equivalent to the Vegas Strip...not even close....not even close...

AC is a dump, that's my summary of the place. Thank goodness for the NSCC to pump some much needed $$$$$ to their economy!

Locks are good when you need to leave your bag unattended in a hotel room but a big shiny lock can also draw unwanted attention in public. Unless you're really distracted, a thief won't easily open a zippered or velcro pocket without you noticing. The only time thieves were able to steal something from my bag was when I left it unzipped.

No padlocks, just be aware of your backpack and who's around you at all times.

Ok, now that the National is over, I want to hear everyone’s thoughts? Did you feel safe walking around, did you Uber it everywhere.

What’s the consensus here?

My wife and I rode in a Jetty bus for $2.50 and it went all around AC picking up weirdos around town. Would not have felt safe at night.

I drove and parked at the Bass pro parking which is just about 10 minutes away by foot and daytime is fine. I wouldn't get near AC at night. I hope the National doesn't ever go back to Atlantic City.

We parked a few streets away near the police athletic league building to get to the show. Didn’t have any issues but we were very aware of surroundings the whole walk. Walked down to the beach one evening and that didn’t feel safe. AC was probably worse than I expected in that it’s just so old and run down.

I’m not much of a gambler but have visited AC on 2 or 3 times. Can count the hours I’ve been there and I don’t know where all the money is going for this City. Vegas is safe, Chicago even on the downtown strip I feel safe even at nite. Detroit after a day game is safe at nite in crowds you are safe. AC, something needs to change.

Instead of AC how about Indy and it’s centrally located and holds Huge events ? ?

I parked in the Ceasar's Garage two days (free parking since I had a diamond card) I walked back after the trade night on Thursday there was one guy who was clearly on something yelling at a trash can but other then that no issues.

Pro tip; either grow up/move to a large city or stop being lazy, and get into a gym so you can at least look like maybe you could handle yourself if something went down.

No one will bother you and you'll feel safe walking around after a card show that ends at 6 PM during the summer. That's a lot more enjoyable than fear mongering on a sports card forum how unsafe you felt.

Dude when I was walking to Hard Rock hotel (in the day smartly) I literally saw a guy working out outside a building with parts of a car. Not even working out near his home. The number of adults I saw at the National who could have messed with him was definitely less than 5%. Although the number of people who THINK they could hang probably have been 50%

They must have done something with the bums and beggars as there were none between the Wave Parking garage and the convention center. In 2016, they were all over the place. Still had constant police activity screaming buy as you walked back and forth. The first night there, we went past he McDonalds and there were police cars and a ambulance in the lot.

Gotta love this idiot type mentality.

I didn’t feel like I was gonna get mugged or die but AC is sh-tty. This isn’t even a debate. It is a fact.

I live in Dallas. I'm not a small guy by any means (6'3 285 lbs). I go to the gym as much as I can. Do people bother me? No. Does that mean that they won't? NO.

It doesn't matter how muscular you look/are, that doesn't mean you're untouchable. Your "pro tip" is crap to be honest.

It's New Jersey for God's sake what did you expect. Look at the cities the National goes to yearly. I'm surprised it doesn't head back to Atlanta, Charlotte, St. Louis or Birmingham those would be ideal spots for the National.

AC is a dump, but don't try to use the phrase "It's New Jersey for God's sake what did you expect". NJ is a phenomenal state that has basically anything you could ask for. If you want to crap on the state, you probably know nothing about it other than the turnpike.

That is your opinion just like I have my own opinion. I can disagree with you just like you disagreed with me.
