Sad he'll miss tomorrow's game, as we will be there. My son will be frustrated to hear we won't get to see him play.

I’ll be surprised if he plays Sunday.

There’s a lot of nervous Tatis collectors out there who bought at peak Covid anxiously awaiting his return to the field.
This has been true over the last couple of years, but 2019 was a wild ride for Devers. He had the big 1st half and his cards nearly tripled. Then the slow 2nd half saw him give over 40% of that bac, ending just under 50% up on the year. Then despite the 2020 market boom Devers was flat, so he was massively undervalued going in to last year.

Since then he has been steadily gaining relative to the market...to the point that he's now only slightly undervalued. He was one of only a handful to be up from the April peak last year to November and he's up again in a down market this year.

Devers will be out Sunday and Monday too, for anyone who needs to make backup plans for Fantasy.

I guess that is a good argument to take the extra day of rest.

Fortunately the team didn’t need him the last couple days

No doubt, it's always nice to outperform the teams that are doing well. Builds confidence.

Should suit them well as they scratch and claw at the chance to eek into the playoffs.

Good to see Devers back in the lineup and doubling off one of the toughest lefties in the game.

Devers Results

I've been selling a lot of Devers and thought I would share the results.

I am mainly selling for exogenous macroeconomic reasons and actually believe if there is a player to hold medium to long term from the 2018 class Devers is one of the best choices. He is durable, young, still growing as a player, large market team etc. I still think he is relatively cheap compared to his peers and a good buy.

I sold a big batch of cards I acquired as graded during spring training. I mostly lost money here through a combination of paying too much initially and selling in a 7 day auction format when some of the cards were probably better suited to being offered it a buy it now/make an offer format.

I mostly made money buying raw then grading. The second batch did benefit from him performing this year but overall the lesson learned is to mostly avoid buying graded cards unless they are known to be particularly condition sensitive. (paper, acetate, etc). Other lessons are of course to buy low serial numbered or image variations... core brands performed best. Topps Chrome, Heritage, Bowman Chrome. Flagship paper seems to be falling out of favor.

Biggest loss: -594.97 on a PSA 10 Heritage Red Ink
Biggest gain: 987.65 on a BGS 9 ROYF Orange I crossed to a PSA 10

I sold a PSA 10 Heritage Blue for 476 on 3/21 and one for 720 on 7/12. Implies we are up about 50% from Spring Training which feels correct across the Devers market.
