Man... I got wrecked on my last 20 card economy sub... only 3 gems

The intergrader variability at PSA is annoying. The overall gemrate seems to be relatively stable (per data at gemrate) but it can vary wildly depending on who get your cards

Yes, I just got an email that they damaged one of the cards. Ugh, luckily not a valuable card but it’s part of a complete set so I requested it to be returned in a slab. Hopefully not long now.

There’s a lot of truth to this.

I also think that chrome type cards appear to get the most leniency, but I could get a 5 or a 10 on the same card for a thick card depending on the grader.

Still waiting for my two graded 2020 Lamelo Ball Rookie cards from PSA (see attachments).

Apparently they were mailed out on May 9th but until now it's showing as "Shipment label info sent to FedEx".

They initiated a trace and investigation to track it but I was told it could take 10 weeks for an update.

Anyone else ran into this similar issue with PSA?

I did submit a proper DV on both cards, but does anyone know how insurance compensation works with PSA?

Ultimately I just want my cards back

Yeah not sure what happened with this sub. Glad you got your cards.

I got a 2019 Sophomore Contenders Luka Doncic AUTO that finished grading on May 16th and by the 18th I received it in the mail.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling PSA lost my Lamelo rookie cards!

You think only 1 person grades your cards? I bet theres at least two graders that review each card and then theres those people that can knock down your grades at the QA stages.

I am still using PSA for low number but high value potential cards, but not for low/mid level rookie cards. They are still the big dog, but seeing all these over one year plus makes it much easier to use other companies.

I'm aware of the process. Was making the point that any particular grader in any stage could have a different take on thick cards in my experience. I was making a broad point about the wild swings in grades on similarly-conditioned cards. Next time I'll write several paragraphs to cover all the nuance. Make sure that every reader deeply understands my point.

I swear there are people here just combing through to pick apart every comment.

The same QA people that review each card to make sure the grade looks correct, right? The same ones that just allowed multiple PR 1 2020 cards go out the door in my order that were mis-keyed and should have been Gem 10's.

If you aren't catching those through multiple stages of QA, do you really think people are double checking if it should be a 9 vs. 10?

If you think they have so man resources sitting around, so that they can have multiple people checking every card you submit you're very disconnected from the realities. The only cards that get more than a single set of eyes on them, are cards that get graded a 10 by the first grader. QA stages only check for damage during encasing or label issues, they don't grade or review the card condition at all except for damage during encasing.
