I've done a lot of both (boxes/cases and books of scratchoffs ($30 type).
The scratch offs usually get you 40-60% on average, in cash.
A box will get you 20-30% usually, sometimes as little as 5-10%. Rarely even or as much as 50%, then you have to sell/ship/fees.. so from a purely gambling aspect, scratch offs are the way to go by a mile.
I also got badly beat up on a box of jumbo and hobby, maybe even worse. I enjoy opening cards way more than scratch offs, otherwise I would never do it.
