Would make sense for them to try to open up Economy to everyone and get as much $50/card orders in now before they reopen the value levels. Problem for them though is the card market now is not what it was 5 months ago.

Yup, agree. This is going to look like a minor stimulus boost at the beginning of the pandemic. Temporary relief perhaps, but unfortunately PSA can't save the world's economy.

And frankly it should be - what if the only reason for a lower grade was, say, a fingerprint that the submitter didn't notice? Why shouldn't that card get a completely blank-slate review if they re-submit it? That's what they're paying for, after all.

Progress? Or Smoke & Mirrors?

Looks good on the surface... but is it just the obvious by-product of months and months of lottery offerings leading to much lower numbers, via that route, due to people being tapped out of $50 worthy cards and/or money?

Real progress will be the transition to a new CC lottery at a lower entry price point...

A little bit of both. We now know that PSA expects demand of 20,000 to 40,000 cards per week at the $50 level. That will continue to decrease week after week until we see lotteries for the $25 service level. Once the backlog is gone, that is when the chaos will start. BGS will have no backlog at that point as well. How low will grading pricing be at the end of 2022? We will find out soon and I think people will be absolutely shocked at the pricing we will have this year.

I submitted hundreds of cards to PSA at $25 and lower. I have submitted around 10 total at the $50 for a few specific cards. There is no way the pile of grade worthy cards will go to PSA at $50. Until they reduce their price in half at least, many will keep waiting or grade elsewhere.

I have a pile for PSA at $25, SGC at $15, and CSG for $8 bulk. I also have some Star basketball cards waiting for BGS. Those are the price points I am waiting for. Spending $50 for PSA and $30 for SGC is insane if you are not flipping. 5 months we will have options and great pricing!

CSG and SGC both need to be sub $10 for sure.

Guarantee PSA will reopen bulk in the $25-$30 range lottery style just like economy. Their approach has been:

Phase 1: New service introduced via lottery at set price
Phase 2: Remove lottery keep same price
Phase 3: Lower price

We haven't seen Phase 3 yet in this new era, but we will for certain tiers in the future.

Just another money grab. They want to make sure they get every single card that people are willing to spend $50 to grade before they actually lower the price. I guess I can't blame them when people are willing to spend that amount.

Its not a good idea to offer a lottery for a $25-30 level with the backlog still there. If you look at the comments from twitter or instagram theres still many people complaining about their submissions from last year. Imagine if they offer $25 bulk and those come back before the backlog is done.
