does anyone have idea why the grading price of without subgrades is cheaper?
I think it is because bgs control their gem mint. it is easier for BGs to control gem mint without subgrades Last edited by rookkied; 05-10-2022 at 05:43 AM. |

I try to avoid BGS cards with no sub grades as much as possible. I mainly look for ones with subs all 9.5 or higher. A BGS “Gem Mint” with a 9 on corners usually doesn’t look like a gem mint card to me. Also, their flip looks like it’s missing something without the sub grades.

Exactly this. People always assume that cards without subgrades still have all 4 subgrades measured and logged, to then calculate a final grade but that just isn't the case. Grades without subgrades are determine more by quick "eye appeal", rather than by technicalities across 4 subgrades. Hence why cards with subgrades at BGS, SGC, CGC are almost always a bit tougher grades than those without subs.
