My uncle's story from collecting in late 1950s. He's a huge baseball fan and he would always buy cards. He's buying and buying and not getting any Mantle or Mays. Just pulling scrub after scrub and he finally gives up. He found out later on that the corner store guy was opening the packs and pulling all the stars out and leaving the scrubs in. Cards and collectibles have always been frought with fraud. My personal collecting style is to buy inexpensive cards (less chance of them being altered) and be prepared to lose all your money.

I've actually never been ripped off opening boxes or buying on ebay or buying retail so that's a small percentage of the hobby. It gets talked about a lot just like any negative news but overall there's more good transactions than bad.

I try to be as civil as possible, but I have also noticed this giant cloud of negativity about everything in the hobby so I just take all of his posts with a grain of salt at this point.

It’s okay to have differing opinions, but when you have a hobby that is exploding like this, how can everything possibly be so bad?

19/20 silvers are so common. Other than Lebron (becos of the first Laker prizm premium), maybe Luka and Trae sophomore...nobody else really sells for much. Using 19/20 prizm is seriously ridiculous. Do u even post in the basketball forums before shooting off your endless supply of negativity here?

I have a 13/14 Silver curry 9.5 on ebay now and i have consistent offers of 600 and above. If he is FORGOTTEN as u put it, thats not possible. No way

I busted a ton of 2014 WC Prizm (always happy to have a discussion with likeminded and hopefully positive people on this) and the numbered parallels sold for next to nothing. Soccer just was going to die a slow death without the RC effect. Look at 17/18 Select, before the mbappe ruboff, it was cheap as chips and i could get 3 CR7 base golds /10 for less than $500usd. Its ridiculous

With Panini trying their best to focus on RC content now, i strongly believe the soccer market is gonna grow big time. Many fellow members stated very valid points on the growth of the hobby

Chronicles will be a vital product to add fuel to the fire. I have the RC checklist. If anyone needs it, just pm me (if the Gala RCs are numbered to /8. Watch out!!)

Will be interesting to see what happens with Chronicles. Sounds like an amazing product putting a lot of their brands together just unfortunate it will not have Ligue 1 or Bundesliga so no Haaland, Reyna, Mbappe or Sancho.

Grouping a sticker and card into the question and then putting a multiple choice in a way that partially puts each entry seems biased. This poll screams of confirmation bias.

I think there is a clear difference between stickers and cards, with how they are distributed, production numbers and the demand. Collect all the stickers you'd like and enjoy, it is just that comparing apples to oranges doesn't really make much sense. It seems like sticker collectors are saying 'aha gotcha, it was released first!' but card collectors are like 'ok, but its a sticker and i dont collect stickers..'.

In regards to the rookie card for Mbappe, which is a more enticing question, wouldn't it be the 2017 Chrome and Select? I think people say parallels are not true rookies, but that's a whole diff thing..

Where I get lost on the definition applying at all is when there isn’t a “card” available in the players first season (Came across a Prizm premier league James Maddison card the other day that is an “RC” apparently... )

Actually, Does anyone know how Panini are defining RC’s in premier league prizm? James Maddison is one thing but how about this gem - Davide Zappacosta, RC card in this years set, for a 27 year old Italian who Joined us in 2017, won the FA cup that year, and then the Europe league a year later and has been out on loan to Roma since the start of the 19/20 season - the year of his Chelsea RC card, I’m sorry but WTF?

1- A card
2- from the players rookie season (to define that further let me say - their first year in the first team squad)

Id be happy to accept that in soccer if there isn’t a “card” available in the players first season as a pro in the first team squad - then there is no rookie card, just a first card produced for that player.

I just can’t accept this is an RC. Actually think it’s ridiculous

Edit - Got some thoughts back on another thread and now understand the RC definition to be: the players “first card” in the league - regardless of their age or if it’s their first year playing pro or not.

Still leaves me in doubt about the Zappacosta.
