I hadn’t thought about this. I’d suggest that all MC members tweet @Topps suggesting we get a crack at Dynasty as compensation for the Sapphire blunder. If that really was a mistake (who knows?), giving us access to Dynasty would help ease the pain.

I know this opinion has been shared a million times already, but after taking the weekend to think about it, I'm still very upset F1 Sapphire wasn't released to Montgomery members first.

F1 Topps releases have become one of my favorite hobbies, and I have nearly put together last year's set, which got kick-started by the Montgomery club release of 2020 F1 Sapphire. I had planned to complete every major F1 set release with the exception of Dynasty.

I'm never surprised by how the major companies do things anymore, but it's no less disappointing.

Not enough boxes made of F1 Dynasty to allow 1 per MC member. Topps could do a lottery or random but that would be about it. Still have people upset about the situation. I really doubt Topps has these for sale on their website on Wednesday.

Their wording never truly guarantees that there’s an allotment for 1 (or whatever the allocation allowed) for us. Always says something along the lines of while available or something. So in theory they could make 25 boxes available to Monty club and the people who get to it the fastest would get it. I never get the emails til later so I know it wouldn’t be me lol

All the talk about F1 Sapphire not dropping as MC first and the $100->$700 Year Over Year price increase, but did Topps website work better for manual checkout users??? Personally I feel like it had been many months since I was able to get anything good on Topps outside of MC stuff. I feel like there were many other manual users who were able to get some boxes vs a typical high demand public release. Not sure if that was becuase of having a large supply of boxes, or if Topps deployed some sort of new bot protection???

Just looking for others thoughts on this. I am thinking more manual users scored because of the supply, but that is just a guess.

I'm in the group of manual users who wasn't able to secure a box. It didn't sound like it was smooth for many people, even those who were able to get some boxes. I think the $700 may have played a bigger part than anything Topps may have done to protect against bots. If it was priced at $100 it would have been a nightmare for anyone imo. I'm glad some were able to score though.

I was able to get 3 manually but it was just as bad of an experience as it always has been. I think it stayed in stock so long because of how many errors there were. It took me a solid 30 minutes of trying (with 5 tabs open on multiple devices) before I got my first box. Then I was able to get 2 more after about another 30-45 min it felt like. Never ending spinning wheels. After a while I figured out when a refresh was necessary and when to let it spin luckily. I have 3 MC accounts so I got the same number of boxes as I would have anyway but I’m still pretty mad it wasn’t a MC release. Seems like a major rug pull by Topps/Fanatics. As far as the price increase goes, I’m not mad about it. It was clearly going to resell for more than that anyway so you can’t blame them for trying to get a bigger chunk of the profits (while still leaving some meat on the bone for the secondary market).

I always wonder why people aren't mad that there isn't a specific time given for when highly desired products are releasing?

I would argue that's more fair than releasing it at a 'random' time because the link monitors pick up the links early and notify their members so it's not like anything will ever be a shock drop to botters. But for actual 'hobby' people there is almost zero chance unless you are randomly reading twitter or the forums when a product is released and by then it's probably too late.

if the time and date of sapphire was announced beforehand you’d have zero shot at manual orders. every bot would be revved at max capacity ready to go.

the reality is anyone who found out sapphire was dropping within 30 minutes after it loaded on site had a chance, and the europe drop earlier actually gave more like 90 minutes notice. there were a ton of manual orders on sapphire.

i know to some people that might not sound like a lot of time but for one of the most hyped releases of the year that’s as much as you can expect.

They should just print to demand. Give everyone a week to preorder whatever amount they want directly from Topps, then print it.

So I replied:

Thanks for that standard copy and paste reply.

I don't care that I didn't get early access... or that the bots were slowing down the site so much it may have been useless. My complaint was based on the price gouging of taking a product that was $100 last year, and now charging $700 for it. Thats like $23 a card. Freaking ridiculous.
