I get the whole RC speculation of 2018 but the print runs wow. Finally had a quick peak and it’s absurd the differences. Am not saying I’d rather have 2014 over 2018 but I’m a man of scarcity and 2014 just seems under valued.

I couldn’t find print runs for 2018 update but I did find an estimate that there are around 73k base cards for 2014. And 2018 must be at least 5-6 times that looking at psa pop reports:

2014 us26 - 5,719 total graded
2018 us300 - 31,049 total graded

Full disclosure have a gold each of us26 and us300 and have been eyeing a 2018 box to add, just wanted to hear everyone’s thoughts.
Same for Chrome Update where the Pop on US26 is still below 900 and US300 is nearing 13,000.

Thoughts?
Mega’s with 2 AUTOS ( not all products ) are going to hold much more value than the Blasters. This is where quality ( Mega ) and quantity ( Blaster ) can meet at the same price point - like 3 Blasters = 1 Mega / in this case, better to go quality

Am assuming that is a pack for Japanese 1977 Topps Yamakatsu Star Wars which is unbelievably rare.

In 1977....
Japanese collectors were treated to their very own vintage set of Star Wars cards. These cards were oversized (3 1/2" by 5"). They were also unnumbered. A total of 36 cards completed a set. Cards were available, either in a 'gamble' book containing 33 cards in a paper pocket tied together with a string, or in cellophane packs of 4 with a header. The unopened pack above is called the gamble book.

I’m astounded by some (most) of your stuff! Have you ever tried to get this authenticated/encapsulated?

It's an odd size and I never got a chance to send it to GAI
Before they went bankrupt. They would have had a holder for it too. My last order with gai wasn't pleasant so I luckily stopped sending to them before they shut the doors.

jmsodpc,
What percent of your sealed wax/boxes/packs are in non-sports material like the Star Wars you last posted?

The Blasters and Mega Boxes are massively overproduced too so they also present plenty risk of getting skunked for your money down the road.

Non sports is my lowest percentage...I only have non sport items that for some reason catch my eye. I'd say probably 10% of my stash is non sport.

Question for you sealed waxers. I'm not a sealed wax investor. But over the past few months I've been getting a box or two here and there of an older product I like. It's fun. I enjoy finding unopened boxes of things like 2002 Finest.

The plan right now is to build up a really fun, eclectic collection. Then, one day, lay 'em all out and rip them. See what cool 20+ year old cards I unearth.

But plans change. Ten years ago I was really into collecting printing plates. Amassed a collection of well over 100. Last year I decided they no longer fit my collection and sold all but a handful.

What I'm getting at here is that although I've started this sealed wax collection with the intention of one day doing a big rip, 5-10 years from now I might still have them all and decide I don't want to rip them, I want to sell them.

Which finally brings me to my question.

I got two boxes in today and one of them has some tears in the cellophane. Nothing major. It's still 'sealed.' Just has a tear. It's one of the corners of the box. Must have scraped something and a portion got torn and pulled back. It's still there. But torn. And there's also another small tear along the edge.

I kind of want to put a little scotch tape over it to prevent it from ripping any further. But I'm worried that if I do and 10 years from now I change my mind and want to sell that someone will balk at buying a box with tape on it.

So. What's the best way to go. Leave the tear alone and hope for the best or put a little tape over it?

Thanks.

Personally, I’d keep it the way it is. The tape would scare a lot of buyers off I think. Good luck with your collection!

That's exactly what I was thinking. Just needed to hear (see) it from someone else. Thanks.

This is one of my pricier wax boxes — as a condition “super-freak!” .. this shrink wrap tear drives me crazy. I decided to leave it alone, knowing that one day it will be sold, and tape could make a buyer suspicious: “did he re-wrap after searching the Box, and that part didn’t stay sealed?”
