Bruce Arians retiring and taking a front office position. Todd Bowles promoted to HC.

Low key could be an upgrade. While certainly Bowles will have his hand in the defensive game plans and defensive play calling, I’m curious to see who they get to fill the DC void.

Weird. Knew it was always in the books, but really strange timing.

Weird timing but Arians does need to recover in general. Achilles injury is no joke

I'm sure the whole AB spectacle didn't help either. I'd imagine dealing with that yayhoo caused B.A. to self-medicate more than usual

Arians was forced into retirement as soon as Brady joined the team in 2020. He was useless and only got in the way

Report from Ian Rappaport: The Bucs are promoting Larry Foote and Kacey Rodgers to be Co-Defensive Coordinators to replace former DC and now head coach Todd Bowles.

So this would be (to my knowledge) the first all black Coaching staff.

Head Coach: Todd Bowles
Assistant HC: Harold Goodwin
Offensive Coordinator: Byron Leftwich
Defensive Coordinators: Kacey Rodgers and Larry Foote
Special teams Coordinator: Keith Armstrong

Pretty cool!

I think everyone knew Arians was gone as soon as Brady came back. This kills all the Brady trade rumors.

IMHO this was a power struggle, pure and simple, and Brady won. They had to have Brady unretire before Arians left otherwise it would look really bad. And they had to wait a week or two to make the announcement or that also would look bad. But I think Glazer told Tom "if you come back, we will get rid of Arians" so that's what happened.

(ok ok they didn't "get rid" of Arians.... but they promoted him out of the way....)

So, Brady made a power play against Arians... now, Brady has to play for all the coaches and staff that are loyal to Arians... hmmm.

Love the Neal signing. Keanu Neal and Logan Ryan gives this secondary extra weapons and extra ability to draw up schemes. Also with this increase of secondary help, definitely see Devin White playing less on obvious passing downs. Which should help protect against some really bad communication breakdowns and blown coverages

Draft day! Excited to see what happens, Bucs have a ton of options at 27. No specific need screams out as “need to draft in the 1st round” thanks to a quality offseason.

I’d like to see DT such as Devonte Wyatt from Georgia to essentially replace Suh. With Suh not resigned (and even if Suh comes back), we need a future DT next to Vita. Even if Suh is brought back, Wyatt can rotate in and learn from one of the best

Other options include
-Zion Johnson, the OG from Boston College. Shaq Mason is a great OG starter but drafting another guy to compete with Stinnie and Hainsey isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
-A CB like Elam from Florida. Tons of CBs going to be on the board, and even with Carlton resigned, Dean and SMB are FAs after next season. Wouldn’t be surprised if they address CB depth/find a future starter here

I think DT, OG, CB are the 3 biggest needs and are the most likely but these also have a possibility

- A Safety, to address losing Whitehead but it feels like this is less likely than the other 3 positions due to the free agency signings
- A WR, they might love this WR class and with Godwin recovering from his ACL, might grab an early WR to create a monster WR group

And certainly an option is to trade down. Spots 27-32 are prime trade down spots for anyone trying to jump back into the first round. Wouldn’t expect them too but if the offer is enticing, then go for it

My prediction for the Bucs is

1st round - DT
2nd round - CB
3rd round - DE
4th round - TE
7th round - OG
7th round - LB

Im tempted to say TE in the 3rd and DE in the 4th if there are serious concerns about Gronk not returning this season.

I think the team wants to draft a LB earlier for depth with Lavonte getting older but it just didn’t fall this way in the draft

DE might seem a little weird but needed depth with JPP not returning. Lots of pressure on Tryon to succeed this year

Don’t mind the trade down. Gives the team additional ammo and plenty of talented guys still available. Spot 33 also very attractive for another trade down if they want. Added an extra 4th and a 6th

Here’s what I’m hoping for today and for the rest of the draft

Today
33 - Logan Hall DE Houston
60 - Kyler Gordon or Roger McCreary (both CBs)
91 - Jeremy Ruckert TE

I think with those 3 picks today, those positions are going to be the ones addressed. I wouldn’t be shocked if they take say a LB or OG, but I think these 3 are the most pressing positions and should be addressed

With the other picks, if they address the ones above, they’ll have 5 picks left. 2 in the 4th, 1 6th, 2 7th

So with those 5 picks I expect any combination of
ILB
Rush OLB (probably 4th round early pick)
OG/OT
RB
S

Also wouldn’t be surprised to see a double up of picks for maybe CB, Licht has done that before

Board is still wide open so who knows

I think my only gripe with the trade down is that I would have been very happy with snagging either Daxton Hill or Lewis Cine. Or possibly even moving up a spot or two and grabbing Johnson when he fell.

So I know there is almost 0 chance of it happening but I'm a bit intrigued by Willis. Obviously they have a very full QB room already and already used a 2nd on Trask but still.

Not really sure if going safety makes any sense though. We are starting Winfield and Edwards this year, Edwards has earned the right to start. Add in Keanu Neal and Logan Ryan as versatile safeties, a first round safety doesn’t play much on this team

Now jermaine Johnson would’ve been great, they probably take him if the jets don’t trade up
