He's striking out once every 4 plate appearances and homering once ever 4.6 plate appearances. I'll take that...

Interesting fact Devers is only 25 and David Ortiz didn`t get to the Red Sox until he was 27. That`s mind-boggling. Devers is going to cost money though. He will be 26 going on 27 when he hits the free-agent market. We are looking at a 30 to 35 million dollar a year player. There is no way the Red Sox sign both him and Xander another 30 to 35 million a year player. I rather keep Devers just because he is about 5 years younger than Xander. |

Sounds like the Red Sox and Devers/Xander are far apart. They’ve signaled they won’t discuss more until after the season: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/04/...outputType=amp And I understand some of this comes down to the huge $$ difference Devers would be owed if he is a permanent 3B vs. if he’s forced to move to DH: https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red...-extension?amp Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by pewe; 04-05-2022 at 01:36 PM. |

I wouldn't be surprised if both tested the market to see what was out there, especially Devers.
If he produces in 2022, he may set himself up for the biggest MLB contact signed to date.

Per MassLive -
The Red Sox recently made an extension offer to star third baseman Rafael Devers but a deal is unlikely to come together before Opening Day, a baseball source said Wednesday afternoon. The sides were described as being “very far off” in negotiations. Héctor Gómez of Z Deportes first reported the offer, noting that Devers rejected because “it was lower than he is willing to consider." I sure hope they learned from their Mookie DEBACLE...better pay this guy...and soon. |

Ya - per the Boston Globe article above, it sounds like they won’t discuss until the seasons over. ![]() Reading between the lines: Devers wants to be paid as a 3B and management wants to pay him as a DH. Management needs to decide if they can stomach him as a 3B, otherwise would be fine with him walking if he can’t come to terms w/being a DH and paid as such Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You can see some of the discussion on whether this is wise, or not. Really, Devers has a good arm, so that is an asset at 3B. He just has limited range. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red...ract-extension Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Does he rise to the contract challenge and have a career year?

Bloom should be fired if they don't lock Devers up long term here, the Story signing would have made 0 sense if you end up botching on both Xander & Devers.

Honestly that story signing makes zero sense as it is. Hope I’m wrong but that signing seemed like a huge head scratcher to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Apparently he was offered a richer contract than JoRam just signed. And that was “not worth even responding to”, I guess.
When Tatis signed his massive contract, Devers commented that’s what he deserved, too. I hope that isn’t still his expectation. As it doesn’t seem like a credible number. And isn’t even worth it w/Tatis, as SD is finding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like the Story signing, if he stays at second.

I think the challenge is a move to DH actually reduces his contract comp pricing. JoRam’s contract for a DH would make that player the richest paid DH in the league. And at that point you’d have to ask: would you rather have Yordan or make a play for Vlad Jr. Who might cost the same / less as a DH. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
