Default 1996 Topps NBA 50th #138 Kobe Bryant Rookie Card PSA 10 - Beware!

I traded for this card back in 2020. The the next day as I was looking at it and started comparing the card more closely to past sales, I noticed
something was not right. I went back to the person, after showing him the details on my findings, I was able to get the cards I traded back from him.

This is a picture I took of the card above.

After looking at VCP comps a bit more and seeing the flips, I noticed the flip on mine was off.
Here is a close up pic of the flip...

Here is pic of another and all other comps, flip looked the same as this other than the cert number itself...

Things I noticed, font is a bit thicker, location of the # should be right over the "M" and also the font on the number "3+8" is off.

I seen 1 of these Kobe cards online today and remembered I had pics and thought I would share especially after checking VCP again
and noticed this exact card I had, was resold by Goldin Auctions 4/7/2021 for $15,990. https://goldinauctions.com/LotDetail...entoryid=80826

I do not see any other copy of this with a flip that compares to this. This copy is cleary a FAKE FLIP

Ken Goldin is on blowout. You could send him a message about the sale and see if he can check with the new owner and have it verified/reholdered by PSA.

That label definitely doesn't look right.

Yeah the 8, 3 and 2 all look like the wrong font, but that's not something you'd generally notice unless you were looking for it. Lucky you caught that and hopefully nobody else gets taken by this one.

Font looks off as hell, especially the serial numbers. Very sketchy.

There was a PSA 10 E-X2000 on eBay a week ago that had a similarly off label.

The PSA card that Goldin sold has the wrong barcode, reads as PSA cert 45983266.

PSA 10 - 17130472 with the correct barcode

Fake PSA 10 sold on Goldin - 17130472 with a barcode that reads as 45983266

The Michael Jordan card that matches the fake PSA 10 Kobe barcode

Counterfeiters never get the fonts right. Ever.

Peep the serif before laying the bid, boyos.

Isn't it crazy how good some the fakes are yet these people cant double check that their fonts are correct?

None of the fakes are that good.

Its also crazy that these auction houses dont bother scanning the barcode on the labels to make sure they at least match the certification number. Very lazy on their part.

This wasn't even one of the "good" fakes and it still fooled most of the sellers/buyers who didn't even bother to look at the label/barcode.

Nice job OP.

Excellent work OP! Thank you for sharing. Adding it to the list of over 4.6K altered, faked, mislabeled and stolen cards. https://www.tiffanycards.com/buyer-beware/basketball

Short update
Woke up to this AM
Contacted PSA with photo
Informed staff about it and to contact original buyer to get card back.
Will send card to PSA to get their confirmation it is a counterfeit holder, if/once confirmed will refund original buyer and turn original Consignor over to PSA for their fraud department to deal with

They'll jump through hoops to achieve perfection in the most complex aspects of a card (foil stamping, refractor pattern replication) but don't know how to create custom font templates in PS. It's like re-creating a 1:1 Mona Lisa with the NY city skyline in the background.
