Do you really think the 23 year old would be DH over the 32 year old?
Freeman does not really fit imo.

This might be a steal.

I like Hoglund and Smith as pieces for this trade. I don't know anything about Snead and Logue. Kevin Smith seems like a very A's player to me. Hoglund could grow into a 3rd or 4th starter.

If Freeman comes to the Blue Jays as the person I replied to openly wondered then yes absolutely.

Blue Jays deal for Matt Chapman is done. Kevin Smith, Gunnar Hoglund, Zach Logue and Kirby Snead are headed to Athletics, per source.

I guess it’s officially time to release my Chapman hoard. At least BGS finally released a large portion of it…

Chapstick has been confounding to watch at the plate the past few seasons. Especially 2021. While Matt 1B took off, Matt 3B fell off. But, as other people have said, he won't be expected to carry the load offensively. Bat him low in the order, let him do his thing defensively and enjoy the feast or famine offense. And who knows? Maybe he did some work in the offseason and is making adjustments to be more consistent at the plate.

Yeah, I have about 50 Hoglund refractors, and 4 or 5 Smith 1st auto's. I know how you feel.

If it happens and that's the route the Blue Jays take, as long as he keeps hitting HR's maybe very little.

Given the DH is everywhere, I think the stigma will be less going forward.

I think Chapman being reunited with former A's teammate Semien on the Blue Jays might be a good thing. It might help to reinvigorate his competitive edge. And Semien might benefit as well.

The dude is going to lower the team ERA by half a run, while hitting lower in a loaded lineup.

I’m a little bummed to see Schwarber sign with Philly, but this is a good move.

Great take. His defense will be excellent and he won’t mind hitting on the bottom third. This definitely works.

Another positive of this deal is the Jays didn't have to give up there best prospects allowing the team to have some nice ammo for a deadline deal for a huge piece. Kirk, Groshans and Martinez is some decent prospect capital to have available.

Can't wait for the season to start!

Holy crap that makes my obsessive hordes look measured and conservative in comparison.

This isn't going to be as good for the Jays as fans might think. I'm nowhere near as sad to see Chappy go as I was with Olson.

Plain and simple Chapman has no confidence at the plate. You can see it in his approach. He'll take strikes that he should be jumping on early in the count and chase pitches out of the zone when he should be taking them. The amount of at bats where he falls behind early without taking the bat off his shoulder will infuriate you.

And I'm going to say this and people will disagree, but he'll probably end up being an a slightly above average defender as opposed to a gold glove/platinum glove contender. His range and arm are amazing, but they can get him into trouble. And without a golf/platinum glove first baseman there to save his errant throws he's going to make quite a few more errors than usual.

I really hope the change of scenery helps and he recaptures his old form. It was so much fun watching him in 18/19 when he was so close to becoming a superstar.

He's going to be surrounded by all stars and dudes who can hit. Not... the A's. That alone should inspire confidence.
