You're absolutely right.

To this day, when people The Dark Knight, all they see is Heath Ledger as the funny guy from 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale.

Technically proficient, decent performances but not engaging. The movie is on par with Dark Knight Rises, my least favorite of the Nolan trilogy. 6/10

Did it feel like 2 hr and 55 minutes or did it flow well?

That's what I'm worried about most.

He was great in another movie I saw recently was very good in his role.

The movie flows and sets everything up, but felt bland and I wasn’t enthused about the story.

Haven't seen it yet but it's said to be lacking the origin story. If so, the filmmakers left out a huge chunk of emotion just to make this version unique.

I thought it was already known a while back that this wasn't a reboot origin story but was about his second year or early days after he becomes batman.

I’m fine without the origin being done again, we all know what it is. Perhaps could have done with more focus on Bruce Wayne’s life

It does not need to be an actual origin story but referencing something of it would leave less of the audience feeling cold. From the trailers the movie looks great and is excellently cast (Pattinson too) yet so much of what makes Batman such an incredibly appealing hero is the orphaned boy.

I think it's a mistake for a Batman film to ignore that part of his character even to make the movie more unique. They say blockbusters should kick 'em in the teeth with emotion and Batman's origin does exactly that.

Can an origin story that has been done to death really be unique?

We don't need another flashback for the origin story to make it into the movie somehow. But ignoring it altogether and focusing squarely on the detective angle will need a heck of a great mystery to drive two hours of screen time. We'll know when the movie is here.

Just under three hours of screen time, not two.

Is the movie worth watching in IMAX? Or just regular setting is fine? What do you think?

it kinda does get into it a little, just not in the way you’d expect. or at least it gets into it on a “sins of the father” way.

kinda hard to explain without just saying it lol.

probably didn’t need to be 3 hours, but it kept my attention the whole time.

This sounds like an interesting angle. The Telltale game did something like this and was quite a different take on the Wayne family.

I personally didn't love it. I didn't feel connected to any single character and felt like outside of Batman and Gordon, you don't get enough dialogue between any two characters. It's a good drama, but Nolan's bad guys have almost ruined all other Batman's for me.

Did you watch the movie in regular setting or special ones like IMAX, Dolby, etc.? Was debating myself if I should watch it in IMAX...

I just saw it in a regular cinema as there’s no IMAX near by. I can’t think of any scenes that would be better on IMAX as a lot of the action is close up rather than wide master shots that show everything

Just got back. I enjoyed it. It didn’t feel like a three hour movie. For those saying there isn’t an origins story, there is enough mention of past events, and reflections of current events that make you understand and feel some connection. At least I did.

It was good, well worth coordinating people to watch the kids so we could see it. A different take than previous incarnations but a worthy one. The world feels lived in rather than CGI'ed. Kinda like OT Star Wars vs Prequels as an example of that thought.

I almost fell asleep and left halfway through it. I went in thinking superhero movie and all I got was a crime drama with Batman playing more detective than superhero. It's just not my cup of tea.

The guy next to me fell asleep. I was bored by the last 40 minutes.
