With Morants play and excitement, Zion’s injury and his reported unhappiness in NO, do the Pelicans wish they had drafted Ja?

I would say so. The injuries coupled with him seemingly not wanting to be there is enough to cast doubt.

In reality, it is too early yet to say who will end up having the better career. However, with Zion showing no interest in the Pelicans I think it is pretty safe to say they would rather have Ja now. At this point they are probably hoping he comes back and plays at a high level for a little while so they can trade him.

Zion to the Knicks in offseason with Cam and RJ already there sure would be interesting

At this point, New Orleans is probably wishing they drafted D. Garland. I don't listen to the media rumors about him not wanting to be there. I'm more concerned about his conditioning. He was overweight before coming into the league. It doesn't look like his conditioning habits are improving. Once you start getting and compiling certain injuries, they can begin to shape how your body maneuvers. I wish him well though.

The Pelicans 100% regret it solely due to the fact that clearly Zion doesn't really want to be there and will probably leave the first chance he gets. However, it's still too early to tell who will have the better career. People forget Zion averaged 27-7-4 on absurd efficiency last year. If he ever decides to actually take the sport seriously the sky is the limit.

Ja has a slight frame and gets hit a lot going to the basket. Would be nice for both if Zion could give him 25 pounds.

Their bigger regret is trading that 4th pick. Garland could’ve been a nice insurance if Zion doesn’t pan out for them. Last edited by Dame; 03-01-2022 at 07:16 PM. |

There is nothing to regret about, cause they took an all-consensus first pick. It wasn't a case in which there's a debate on who was the first pick, nor did they need a point guard over a forward. If Zion doesn't pan out, it'll just be bad luck.

Besides being far too early to tell, New Orleans' front office is an absolute disaster compared to Memphis. You can't just switch places between Zion and Morant and expect the Pelicans to become a functional organization all of a sudden with savvy front office moves.
The Grizz might get a top ten pick THIS year because Griffin salary dumped Steven Adams on the Grizz and had to attach a protected first in the process to try to fix the terrible contract he gave Adams in the first place. |

Even as a Morant fan, I'll say that when Zion was on the court, he proved to be a much more impactful player in my opinion. If he's happy and his weight is in control, Zion is a 25/10 player on excellent efficiency. I can see Zion being an easier fit on a championship team than Ja.
That being said, it's utter crap that Zion never gave New Orleans a chance. The team isn't even THAT bad if he were to commit. This garbage is all on Zion, not the Pelicans

for now, to me, it feels a lot like the Oden over Durant situation back in 2007

Idk why people are saying it's too early to tell. Even if Zion is perfectly healthy he's not staying so it won't even matter

Ja has embraced playing for a small market team while Zion's commitment to New Orleans is questionable. Zion still might end up as the better player but it won't matter to the Pelicans if he ends up demanding a trade.

Collectors who paid big money for Zion have to be sweating at this point. Ja collectors are rejoicing.

That’s true. I should’ve been more specific, I was referring more to their limited rookies from NT and other elite brands. It is baffling to me how some people are still paying top dollar for Zion’s big rookies. Balls of steel!

They must be getting some kind of discount by this point. I see almost uniform "Best offer accepted" for the high end Zion sales on Bay. I am guessing mid 20s for NT type stuff
