Why all the hate for BBCE. The pitchfork crowd comes out. Its usually all the small time collectors leading the charge.

Same haters for every type of authenticating service.

Experts make mistakes. fake and altered cards get slabbed, experts get fooled.
fake autographs get authenticated by experts all the time.

He made a mistake and owned up to it. I am sure it wont be the last time he authenticates a fake box or pack. Its inevitable. Its not fraudulent, its a mistake.

Some small percentage of bbce authenticated wax is bound to be tampered or sealed with. Hes not a scammer or shyster. Hes an experienced expert in unopened wax who isnt perfect.

Just like trimmed and altered cards get by the experts at PSA.

Hes responding just as you would want an expert to respond. By learning from this mistake and trying to make sure there is a lesser chance of it happening again.

Sure BBCE may lose some customers and confidence in the short term, but the majority of the long term unopened collectors and investors know and trust Steve.
They have opened plenty of legit BBCE boxes and packs. But sure hes made mistakes before and owned up to them and it will happen again.

Wax authenticated by BBCE will still hold a significant premium over non authenticated wax.

I certainly will continue to have no hesitation in buying BBCE authenticated unopened. I certainly dont buy BBCE authenticated wax thinking this is 100% untampered with. I buy with the assurance that it most likely is untampered with, but you would have to be either stupid or dumb to think any expert is always 100% correct.

"we all got duped"...really though? Meelypoptart and Cardkaloser knew what they had (or didnt). They talked ole Steve into an "authentication". Because of him, Shyne and LP got duped. The rest of the parties involved were only thinking about money, clout, private jets, poppin bottles and hanging w/ celebrities.

Most expensive item he’s ever authenticated, and all he did was look at the tape and a sticker that someone had put some pressure on to make it look aged. And it fooled him! He’s no expert in TCG. Guy said so himself in 2020, even though he’s been authenticating TCG for PSA for God knows how long.

What other things has he looked past for a friend or for a big authentication? You have to now question his entire operation & his judgement.

Just as easy to reseal a box with garbage packs as it is a case.

Always desirable, frequently unavailable unless you're dealing with the original owner. For instance, how would you obtain the provenance for an older box or case from Blowout unless there's only one?

The need for due diligence is so obvious. Unfortunately the hobby needed a smack upside the head in the form of a $3.5 mil fake to start realizing this.

Never trusted BBCE. Not when their Ebay store had packs of stars on the front sold separately along with sealed boxes. But this is just next level screw up.

This goes way beyond a “mistake.” It literally took a Pokemon blogger little time to do some research and figure out that the case was fake.

BBCE charges for their expertise and their reputation is what you pay for along with it. They clearly didn’t do their due diligence in this case. I for one no longer trust them and that won’t change.

They are done.

It's no wonder BBCE offers ZERO guarantee behind their authenticity. What a useless service. I hadn't seen all the info about the fake cello packs Steve authenticated. Lord only knows how many mistakes he has made over the years. I'd be concerned if I held bbce wrapped items.

I realize BBCE is going to take the biggest hit here, followed by Meelypops (and they deserve it) but am I the only one that thinks CardKahuna is the real crook in this entire situation? IIRC he's the one that roped in MeelyPops who in turn got BBCE to auth the case. Kahuna is also the guy that had the backstory on the whole thing and kept changing it up.

What a total s-show.

This is the pertinent piece.

They don’t guarantee anything they do. This is why other TPGs don’t compare to PSA, who has a plethora of “mistakes”. They’ll make you whole.

I doubt this is the moment the hobby jumps the shark, but sealed wax? I’m not so sure…

How can Logan Paul not get his money back? This was ended up being obvious and clearly documented fraud.

He got his money back instantly. Try and keep up.

Logan is the only one that had zero to lose. Shyne wasn’t going to stiff him and if it was real, the case would’ve been worth even more. No lose situation for Logan and now he’s make money off of the press and video views!

No need to throw the baby out with the bath water. If you know what you're doing, you shouldn't have any problem finding authentic wax.

As for wax authentication, the lesson isn't to build a better BBCE. Be your own expert. BBCE's limited services were never comparable to PSA anyways.
