Can anyone authenticate that 3.5m was actually spent on the case?

You'd certainly have to be a real gambler to rely on BBCE's authentication "process" now, however.

But as you well know, there hasn't been because no one opens their BBCE wrapped investment wax. As has been stated in this thread, it's a great system for that reason alone.

Fair question. It is certainly not beyond the realm to find out this was all staged.

If you mean proof like Wire receipts, then no. We just rely on what LP and Shyne have said about the transaction.

This is a great point, provenance has always been important. More so now than ever with sealed cases after this Pokemon issue. Bottom line, there are people out there going all out to manufacture aged factory cases.

Steve Hart's entire business strategy tragically and hilariously blew up in his face today. The fact that he let himself be filmed doing that is so sad, I actually do feel a little bad for the guy.

I think it's more likely that some form of the BBCE authentication of that case will become a running joke/meme within the industry. For instance:

Steve Hart is pretty knowledgeable about vintage sealed products, there has been very few instances of fake sports product sealed by BBCE having issues. The issue here is Steve Hart thought he could authenticate Pokemon with zero experience in that hobby. It is embarrassing from him, but he deserved it. He saw an opportunity for a money grab, and he decided to take it without knowing the product. He is getting what he deserves right now.

This is the part that really surprises Me — for $5k, wreck what already is or what could have a been a multi-million $ business

This is super unfortunate for the hobby as a whole IMO. Hopefully no one is shocked or caught off guard by this being possible. This hobby greatly revolves around trust, every purchase made from a seller eBay, every breaker that hosts a break we get into, every card graded by a grading company, and countless other situations and examples. I remember 25 years ago living on Beckett boards and sending cash through the mail to a seller when then in return would ship the cards to me. Insane how things have changed. The ripple effects goes all the way down from top to bottom, just such a bummer for the hobby as a whole.

I would NEVER buy a box or case "authenticated" by BBCE, or any other company for that matter. It is what it is... we must do our due diligence. For us in the hobby for nearly 3 decades, we don't need their opinion.

Who's the scammer in this case? Who knows how many times it was bought and sold...

Makes me wonder how much junk is out there in the hobby "authenticated" by BBCE with Mr T packs inside

People will have more faith in boxes. Doubt it with cases after seeing Steve’s methodology.

You're exactly right. Case are a thing of the past after this one... and who knows how many thousands of "authenticated" case there are out there with Mr T Topps packs inside.
