OP, I think the only two 97-98 Retro Golds that have sold so far are the Draisaitl ($7600) and the Norris ($1825).

The Draisaitl was a Probstein listing, so who knows how legitimate it was, but $7600 for a PSA 8 seems crazy.

The McDavid would be an absolute beast.

A lot of PMGs have unfortunately been cut short by Upper Deck. The worst part is PSA won't grade some of these because of minimum size requirements.

That is ridiculous. How does UD get away with this? Other than the obvious answer - exclusive rights.

The obvious answer is that grading companies are independent and unrelated, so UD isn't getting away with anything. UD is printing cards...what a third party says is irrelevant.

The fact that grading companies have the audacity to selectively measure some cards but not others, or allow some random variance to size and yet somehow sell their perceived authority as anything other than a farce...that's ridiculous.

Ordinarily I would agree with your statement but just a simple eye test on that Auston card makes it look like a total “not my job” moment by someone at UD. Unless the mag holder is made for an oversized card, that is a severely miscut card.

Not that the condition of a 1/1 is of huge concern. With how PMG's grade I'm sure it was destined for a 'authentic' PSA or BGS slab anyways.
