Museum needs to die in a fire along with Tier 1.

Abominations, no matter the sport.

Really?

I thought Tier One has the best patches for Bundesliga and that the UEFA Museum patches were far and away better than one used in ANY Panini release this year, namely Immaculate and Obsidian.

I can't comment, I haven't collected patches for a long time. Just the design, especially Museum is just so do so dang ugly. It's so ugly they would have even set it on fire in 1982 back when everyone had brown and orange carpets ffs.

Imagine having a Sidney Raebiger card in this

The kid has played 180 seconds of football in his entire career, he's never, ever, ever made the squad, sat on the bench or even given a squad number for the Champions League.

Perhaps the Topps cheese that lurks the Soccer forum on here can tell us how they decided to add him to this set in a act of alternate reality Donald J Trump would be proud of...

You’re in the minority there. Museum is Certainly a very popular baseball product. I’ve enjoyed opened the soccer version as well. Tier 1 on the other hand…no thanks.

I went and watched a few case breaks from last year and looked at this years checklist. I’ve sure some people will be lucky but this feels like a beat down at anything over $200

I think unless it is immaculate or impeccable, anything over $200 is still a ridiculous price point.

MLS paper should be $40 (it will get there)
Mosaic PL/LaLiga/Serie A should be $80 (it may get there)
PL Prizm should be under $100. (it will get there)
Topps Chrome UCL (with the insane volume) should be $100, Lite at $60
(Both have a chance now, as the market floods through June/July)
I have seen Obsidian at around $300, and that should hit $200 by the end of July.

There is just way too much volume for the breaks/wax limited audience.

The thing is, the baseball product contains a lot of cards of HOFers & retired players.

The soccer product does not.

Just like in other sports, there is a huge amount of demand for retired players and GOATs. However Topps & Panini are doing comparatively little to address that segment of the collector base.

Every Champions League product has the same checklist, with the same 2-3 retired players that Topps has signed licensing agreements with. That's not good enough.

I'm itching for another product like 2017 Nobility that is almost entirely focused on retired players.

Mosaic is being carried by autos from retired players. Same with Chronicles.

I don't understand how they can do a decent job at getting signers to carry the product but not putting them in base set/inserts. I see they've started doing it but why is it so hard to make it widespread?

No one cares about Museum base cards or inserts. I get your point if talking about other products. But museum is only about autos and patches.

Look at the nobility checklist again. Essentially every single player in that set has autos featured in recent sets. Look at last year’s obsidian release and see that it has a ton of the same players. I’ve seen a few people say “give me Nobility again!” But it wouldn’t offer anything they aren’t seeing in other products today. I doubt we’d get that many on-card autos in a set outside of flawless or eminence by the way. That’s a much harder task given the worldwide nature of the sport.

Nobility actually has great looking cards.

Vast majority of modern sets don't. I've been spending more on low numbered nobility and low numbered Select 16/17 this year than anything else.

I agree the set looks nice. it has an artistic look to it. But not everyone loves that either. Nobility isn't getting any price multiplier because of looks, though. Just like any other set, gold /10 base do well, grade 10s do well, goat numbered base do well, the rarer insert (For Club & For Country) does ok, all standard for any product. The on-card autos get a premium for being on-card as they should.

So what everyone is really saying is "we want on-card autos"

I'm not even that bothered about autos.

I want nice looking cards that weren't designed on Kais Power Goo that don't look identical to their Baseball, Gridiron, UFC and Basketball counterparts.

In baseball, at least that's not true.

I've collected the Museum base set in several different years, and other similar high-end sets like Tribute & Triple Threads also often have had great looking base sets with excellent checklists.

In soccer, the reason people don't really care about base sets is because of overproduction....just too many different products being released with similar checklists.

Only 2022 products I've built the base set so far have been Topps UEFA Champions League and Mosiac EPL.

Saving the rest of my money for whichever World Cup product I think has the best design.

Bingo.

2017 Nobility is still the high-water mark in terms of card design.

That's fair. I can respect that.

Base and base parallels of Museum, Triple Threads, etc in baseball do not sell well at all. That is entirely because those products are specifically about the autos and patches. Like 1% of the value in those products come from base cards and base parallels. I can appreciate set collectors that build those sets, but not many do, hence the little value that comes from base.
