MLB: "After putting up one of the greatest seasons we’ve ever seen, the sensational Shohei Ohtani will become just the 16th recipient of the Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award."

https://twitter.com/MLB/status/1453139392462270469

Award was first given out in 1998 to McGwire + Sosa for their historic HR race and most recently to Jeter and Vin Scully in 2014 for their respective careers.

I’m sure they regret Sosa, McGwire and Bonds.

I have no idea why I keep feeding PSA money, but they have to match right? Right?

Looking at past winners, it looks like only two awards were based on an individual season by a player not tainted with steroids. Ichiro in 2005 and Ohtani in 2021. Most are career achievements.

This is the 1st time since the beginning of the 2018 season that Shohei has signed a card with his original, more elaborate signature:

I guess Ippei can finally take a break from signing . Joking aside, his rookie year auto is awesome. This is a step in the right direction, though not quite as good. I do like that he brought the infinite loop to emulate 夢. I'd much rather have him sign less with a better quality auto!

Here is another example of Shohei signing with his original, more intricate signature - looks really nice!

Worst kept secret since June. It would be stupid to see a MVP price hike unless it was unanimous and on the front page of every paper. It's actually a good time to buy. Not going to get cheaper into next year unless you're one of the people that believe there will be a lockout.

Winners will be announced on November 11, 2021.
30 voters from the MLB Writers' Association of America (MLBWAA) votes for the AL & NL MVP.

Hopefully, Shohei wins unanimously;
Him not being the 1st choice in any AL MVP ballot is hard to conceive.

In any case, the voters' ballots will be shown to the public if he ends up in 2nd place in someone's ballot...

MVP all the way, but I doubt it will be unanimous.

Actually winning the MVP doesn't do squat for card prices. It's not until the next season's hype train gets moving that people start thinking "what if he goes back-to-back MVPs? What if this? WHat if that?"

That's when the MVP starts cranking.

I am possibly picking up a 2018 Bowman Chrome Ohtani Auto (batting) tonight locally. Card is not graded- what would you guys expect as a fair offer? I will send to PSA tomorrow if we make a deal. I am not much into the modern stuff so any advice is appreciated. Thanks

If you're paying cash, I would target 2.5 but pay up to 3 if it's really clean (if I was actually looking for one). These were redemption only so it would be sketchy to me if it were sold by an experienced dealer and not graded. If it's from a PC collector, that may be different. Also look at the back, 2018 back dents were common, unfortunately. Card is 3+ years old now so it's going to be less common to find gem copies lying around.

Awesome, thank you for the advice. Seller said it is mint and will grade high, but I take that with a grain of salt. Pics look good but not high quality. I will make sure to look at the back for indentations. Again, I appreciate the response and help.

Also make sure to check the surface of the card in the light for scratches/lines as it is chrome and those can get surface issues pretty easily
