Default Would you be in favor of invisible ink on graded cards?

For arguments sake, let's say it wouldn't damage the card in any way.

UV ink that would show under a black light that the card had been graded and it's grade. Sort of like those hand stamps you'd get in the club back in the day.

It would let the grading company it was submitted to know it had been graded previously and not to re-grade, or, alternatively, label it with a grade, and note the previous grade or grades and from what company.

There are surely a lot of pros and cons. A card jumping from a 6 to an 8 might scream trimmed / altered, but it could also just be grader error.

What are your thoughts?

I'm not for or against, but I'd like more than yes or no - reasons for or against would be appreciated!

Like how Carfax let's you know what has happened to the car. This would let you know more about the card's history.

No, and for this reason.

https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1297069

I have graded thousands of cards, kept track of multiple submission results, and have analyzed countless cases of submissions that received results that are statistically impossible. This would just lead to fraudulent activity by gatekeeping certain cards from getting a certain grade.

These are still human graders. I buy only singles and have used grading over the past years as a major contribution to my income. I know how it sounds but I trust my opinion over someone who has to push through cards at a fast rate to maximize profits for the company. You should be able to have a second opinion if your willing and confident enough to spend the money. Until there is a company that is transparent enough to show a card getting graded by AI with accurate results every time, I will keep staying true to this opinion.

The sooner people come to grips with the fact that grading isn’t meant to be perfect, the sooner people will find happiness in the hobby.

This right here. The average 10 will be in better condition than the average 9 which will be better than the average 8....etc, but there will still be variance within each grade.

Also, no way to the OQ.

Grading is subjective. Graders make mistakes.

Less interested in the grading shell games people play versus having them discreetly watermarked by the manufacturer so that thieves can be arrested.

PSA already does this with game used bats. It wouldn't be surprising for them to use it in other areas as well.

Noone here wants stamps on their cards unless it's of a fake auto that grades a PSA 10

I doubt people realize it honestly. I own a few "in the presence" certified cards. I wonder if they are laced with the ink. I can send a message/email and find out if the masses want.

I'd say no because there are cards that legitimately should be resubbed.
I've bought quite a few cards that got a bad grade because of a fingerprint on the chrome surface or a smudge that was easily wiped off. No way those grades should be locked in place because someone didn't know how to submit or was to lazy to look at the card beforehand.

Grading is ONLY an opinion. That's all, just someone's opinion on condition and authenticity! It just so happens that some people value some opinions more than others and prices reflect that, but when it's all said and done it's just someone's opinion. I definitely don't want the people giving me an opinion putting a mark on cards or items invisible or not.
