Ippei's translation for Ohtani was not very sharp. I was able to find the raw clip (not the chopped up translated version circulating the web)

"I like the fans and atmosphere of the stadium, but beyond that, I have a strong desire to win. I think as a player, that's the right way to feel"

That is very different from "I want to win, I'll leave it at that"

The Twins dealt for additional money then sent it to the Angels when he was down to his final teams.

I believe all but 1 or 2 teams submitted answers to his questionnaire (so 28 or 29 teams pursued him, but obviously with different levels of intensity). Here's an article from around the time making it clear that, even after Ohtani rejected some teams, there were still a large set remaining:

Ohtani wants out. Rendon doesn't care about baseball and Trout been in his newport beach hot tub all year chillin, two guys who take up half the payroll.

If he decides he does want out, he can shorten that timeline by forcing them to choose between 1.5 more seasons and letting him walk, or getting something back for him.

I thought I was pretty sure he signed only a 2 year deal for ‘21 & ‘22.

Arbitration eligible in 2023, Free Agent for 2024, upon closer inspection.
