They are exactly the same for all intents and purposes (3:12 vs 3:07 last year)

And if you can’t see why that’s a bad thing for Baseball compared to Football?

I don’t know what to tell you

Looks like this works in California A ball, reduced games by 21 minutes. If there is a lockout or strike this year, it might be because owners want this and players don't.

Pitch clock doesn’t bother me.

Extra innings man on 2nd is stupid, 7 inning doubleheaders suck, DH isn’t real baseball, and outlawing shifts is bad, learn to hit em where they ain’t

I went to a AAA game a couple weeks ago and it was a beautiful thing. There was a lot of scoring, the game was still well under 3 hours. Win-win!

Nearly 1+hr of the game is us watching pitchers and batters adjusting their caps, shirts and belts between pitches. So yes…a pitch clock is needed.

I was a hardcore no on this, but go to a minor league game with the clock - most fans won't even really notice it. The Pedro Baez of the world need to speed up their game, I'm ok with it.

I've mentioned it before, but if you're trying to improve your product by giving less of it...it's the product that sucks, not the amount.

Yes to pitch clocks. There is a difference between a pitcher composing himself between pitches and one taking a snails pace of 30 seconds. Once set, throw the damn ball.

If the product is watching batters go through their own personal collection of superstitious equipment adjustments and touches before every… single… pitch, then I agree, it sucks.

I watch a lot of baseball. I don't ever remember thinking "would you pick up the pace and throw the ball."

Yes, except when runners are on base.

I'm in favor of a pitch clock - certainly when runners aren't on base. Oh, and I'd also say that batters aren't allowed to leave the box to readjust his gloves after every pitch.

I'd keep the man-on-second-in-extras rule but have it kick in beginning in the 12th inning.

Get rid of the seven-inning doubleheaders. If there is a concern about taxing players because of too many makeup games, cut the season down to 154 games. Or extend the regular season an extra week and cut down the length of the postseason*.

*Also, none of this "16 team playoff" nonsense. 10 teams should be the max.

The DH is an abomination. Just keep it in the American League.

Re: shifts - I'd say keep two infielders on both sides of second base. So instead of banning it, just limit it.

I just had my first minor league season. I didn't even notice the clock. It didn't seem like it sped or slowed down the game at all though

Wouldn't need a pitch clock if everyone was a quick as Cueto. I vote no. A well hitting team slows the game down a lot more than a slow pitcher.

Not true. According to the the article in the Athletic: runs increased - homers increased - walks decreased - strikeouts decreased. All this and games were shortened by 21 minutes.

Yes, but it must be enforced. I like it at 15 seconds with no runners on. Of course they don't need to change the rules. The umps could handle this themselves now.

to those that have gone to a minor league game with this, I have a question..

Can the catch just hold on to the ball for 10 seconds, and then throw back to the pitcher? The clock doesn't start until the pitcher gets the ball right.

This year I wonder if this will be the norm.
The catcher getting the pitch, holding onto the ball. Giving the pitch the next pitch on the PitchCom. Throwing the ball back. Just for a little more rest.

I know in the minors they didn't have Pitchcom.

Yes you're right, that's why they need to speed things up...to make more time for more commercials. Economics 101.

This is going to impact the game significantly.

A study was done on the effect in the minors and pitchers would lose velocity quicker due to less rest between pitches.

There should be more scoring.

I voted no but I am a glutton for baseball, my team has been pretty bad the past few years and I still enjoy watching every last pitch, 162 games. My team is AL so I am used to the DH. I hate banning the shift (I think this will lengthen games rather than shorten them if that is the MLB goal). I really hate the Zombie runner on 2nd. I even dislike making pitchers face 3 batters minimum. I don't like every time there is a close play everyone has to wait and see if the replay coordinator wants to challenge calls. However I do appreciate replay, just do it better. I am also kind of on board with robo umps because they blow so many balls and strikes. The 7 inning double header doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

The NFL brings in some new wrinkles and rules every year and those don't bother me at all, actually the game has gotten better over the years.

Baseball rule changes seem to be making the game worse for longtime fans, maybe a sport where less tinkering is better? Or maybe they should come up with new rules that everyone agrees with rather than just trying to shorten games.

I have seen this exactly zero times in a minor league game. I would expect the umps would not fall for it.

I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned but the biggest implication of the clock will be the to James Karinchaks and every other pitcher who eventually adopts his approach (many have).

And that is the shaggy hair, sweat + rosin combo = sticky stuff. Basically the closes you can legally get to sticky stuff and you’ll see some pitchers go hair to rosin between every pitch. Will be. Much harder with pitch clock or they’ll have to go through routine super. Fast
