I've done that for the last few months with basketball because wax prices are so damn high. Absurdly high. I got a Prizm cello pack a few days back from B&N and realize why though... most of the rookies I pulled were still going for $2-5 on eBay so you could easily break even on $10 worth of cards. And these were no name rookies. I imagine it's the "investors" out and about, trying to snap up any and all rookie cards

There's a lot of blame to go around with why basketball cards are such a mess. Football has gotten better. Hopefully basketball can be cleaned up with this new season, maybe there will be more product out there.
Just buying singles is the problem too....

You have to not buy anything for the ripple effect to occur. But the problem is that not enough will do it at once.

1. Don't buy the singles, product, or join retail breaks on the secondary market
2. Flippers get stuck with a lot of product they can't move because their customers can't sell the singles or they are not joining breaks
3. More Product is left instead of buying up and cant move it

This is what should happen but never will

Basically the collectors who are suffering the most are basketball collectors. You can open baseball and football anytime you want. Especially baseball is being untouched. Print runs are higher for baseball and football, and more product. Basketball barley has any product out, and everything is botted, even Contenders back in April/May.

NFL Chronicles Megas selling for $55 to $60, and 2020 Chronicles basketball still at $160. All basketball and high end football are botted. Target doesn't care, and they scammed tens of thousands of people to open credit and debit cards with them. They know canceling cards hurt credit scores. I would cancel mine if it didn't.

Only way to beat bots is to up print runs.

as you said it will never happen. it’s like communism, it sounds good on paper until people start looking out for themselves.

everyone agrees, no resale on retail! hold the line nobody pay more than $20… then that one guy decides, you know what I’ll pay $21…then the next says well $22 is still a great deal…

then you have the morons who buy into retail breaks. they look at it and think it only costs $50 to buy into this break that’s the same as i would pay for a mega if i could even find one at retail, and this is a 3 box break! most of them don’t understand the math and that they are paying the equivalent of $150 for a mega when you add all the pieces up that are sold off.

football will be the same way once pro uni comes out. the markup may be slightly less than basketball, but prizm optic select football will be just as in demand as basketball.

As much nostalgia as the Metal brings for me (at least because of Marvel). I know nothing about hockey despite the Gr8 playing for my hometown team 😅

That's the obvious, my point is everything is being botted for basketball. NFL still has so many more products. 18 retail releases last year compared to the NBA's 11.

You can buy Elite, Prestige, Donruss, Playoff,Chronicles, Playbook, Score, etc easily. NBA everything is botted or wiped out in stores. Basketball sparked this in late 2019, and went even crazier once 2020 optic was released.

As a collector I would love the option to open something cheap. To build a set, and some solid inserts.

I feel left out, because I only collect basketball, and ohio state football. I have scored online and in store with basketball, but it's tougher and tougher.

Give me some cheap rips to pass the time at least.

Bots won’t be buying NBA Chronicles and illusions like they did in 2020

Yes they are, if they bot Contenders they're doing it to those and everything. Especially when they see what last years is still going for.

Bots are 100% buying every NBA release. Even if resale is like $35 on a blaster, they will eat up as much as they can for $20 from Target.

Once blasters are $40 and Megas $60 that will be the end of flippers.

Flippers by me leave every product right now except for Select/Prizm Basketball.

Last year it would be unheard of to leave Topps Chrome baseball..
Fanatics already working on that. My rep called today offering $30 Select blasters and $50 Select megas.

Yes. $20 is a good price point.

I DO expect them to do what they've done in the past... modify the configuration (like they did with Bowman a couple of years ago) to keep it at $20. Instead of jacking Chrome baseball up to $30 they should have just dropped the number of packs from 8 to 6 (for example).

Oh yea, $15 in profit (keeping it clean) and they get 100 blasters, that is a nice profit.

For the record I've only bought $1-$2 singles of Hawks rookies and two lower-end Trae Young graded cards (rated rookie and select base). Both bought through my LCS, they threw me a deal on both of those cards so I took them up on it... I paid a little more than $100 for the rated rookie and $80 for the select rookie cards? That's about it for basketball for me.

I mainly collect UGA football players, Aaron Murray and Jake Fromm in particular. Mainly collecting Fromm in his UGA uniform and trying to snap up Aaron Murray rookie cards. High-end cards of these two are not expensive at all. Aaron Murray "high-end" is a few bucks at most, and Jake Fromm prices are plummeting since he's been cut and people are realizing he doesn't have a future in the NFL.

Diehard UGA football and baseball fan. Makes the hobby far more enjoyable for me, I'm in my own world away from all of these people who are making it "unfun" for others.

His schtick used to be that he stole info from paid groups and leaked it onto his twitter. For the clout.

I also see he has no valid license for like 3 years. Sounds like a great guy and great for society. Weed and drinking pics on his Twitter. Wonder how he lost that license.

And he reteweets Bill Pulte who allegedly gives away money all the time:

I’m going to give $10,000 to someone random who retweets this tweet because it’s been a while since I gave away $10,000 in a tweet!

And a few Tweets down, "Does anyone need Topps Chrome?"--Yeah, looks like Target's website has plenty of it!

Embrace your new Drake stan yeezy boost overlords.

The Chronicles retail pillaging game was in dire need of a shakeup. Happy to see racially ambiguous drip gods entering the space and thriving.
