If you haven't gotten a message from SGC (check your spam folder or check your account on their site) it might be worth giving them a call to see if they've gotten it but it's also possible they only pick things up once or twice a week or something...definitely wouldn't freak out yet.

I disagree wholeheartedly. I’ve played a ton of baseball in my life and never came across a single umpire who took advantage of the nice/respectful players by making bad calls against them. Nor do they try harder to make good calls for the whiny players to avoid dealing with a temper tantrum. Nearly every coach I played for stressed restraint when disagreeing with an ump. You never showed up an ump. Didn’t matter if you were hitting or pitching. If you went too far the ump was more likely to call the next borderline strike against you. My Grandpa and a couple old-timer coaches always told me that the “respect the ump” mentality came from the notion that they have a damn difficult job and are doing their best. Even when they make mistakes. That mentality has shifted to people believing most umps are on a power trip and deserve to be put in their place. I get the arguments for removing umps in favor of replay-based calls and computer controlled strike zones. I really hope it doesn’t come to that. Call me old school or an idiot, but I see umps as part of the game. Even with all their missed calls and imperfections. Back to Ohtani... The way he conducts himself on the field and with umps is simply awesome. Especially in this day and age of overly dramatic reactions. I hope kiddos these days are paying every bit as much attention to his behavior as they are his performance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was watching the Red Sox the other day and Bogaerts gave the ump an earful about a called strike 3 off the outside corner and the exact same pitch to the next batter was called a ball. And it was called a ball the next time Bogaerts came up. Now I'm not calling Bogaerts a "bad guy" and I'm not saying Ohtani should change, I like that he's not a whiner, my comment was just based on what I've seen.

Plus we might not see him pitch again this year or at least 100% healthy.. yet he is still a lock? at this rate he might strike out 50+ times this month with 5 HR and Vladdy could win the Triple Crown.. (unlikely, but possible) Last edited by brios8; 09-01-2021 at 08:15 PM. |

Cole really has his number tonight...he's bailing out while swinging at pitches outside...

.................... AB R H HR RBI BB SO SB AVG Last 7 Games 23 6 2 2 2 5 11 3 .087 Last 15 Games 51 10 9 3 4 14 22 5 .176 Last 30 Games 97 16 19 5 8 21 38 7 .196 is this really what an MVP looks like? imagine if he has another month with a .150 avg to me this is JOEY GALLO like with speed Pitching he is 8-1 with a 3.00 ERA. that's a great Pitcher, but not CY young or MVP like awesome what he is doing.. but calling him a lock for MVP doesn't make sense to me... if he was batting .290 and had a 2 ERA than maybe.. but not right now when he is trending down it will be a good fight with VLaddy.. if the season ended today I would give it to Ohtani though Last edited by brios8; 09-01-2021 at 08:44 PM. |

Didn’t you hear? He won the MVP in June right before the ASG. That’s when he was the hottest player on the planet. 2-1/2 months ago. He doesn’t even have enough innings to qualify for leaders in ERA. What he’s doing is really great no doubt. But he hasn’t been MVP caliber in 2 months. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Looking at things in baseball on a short term basis doesn’t really work out. For instance in that same 30 day span Vladdy is batting .268 with one more homer than Ohtani and a OPS in the high .700’s. As you state, not exactly mvp numbers. |

Players have rough stretches and they figure it out. Ohtani is no different. No one here should be making excuses for him when he's playing poorly and no one should be coming in and hyper focusing on a specific poor stretch to push their own agenda. The overall body of work is what matters. This thread was a much more pleasant a while back, but shortsighted comments from specific members (and those taking the bait) are changing that.

Yet Vladdy can still win the Triple Crown. and even with that .268 this past month he is still over .310 ![]() ALL I AM SAYING IS THEY BOTH HAVE A SHOT... why does that bother many? ![]() Quote:
There is no agenda, and of course it is fun to state facts and compare players. If you say Vladdy has no shot at an MVP then that would be an agenda. Also not being able to discuss an MVP battle and just wanting to talk about how Godly a player is, won't be keeping it real. its Best to see what is really going on.. accepting Ohtani today would be the MVP, but he does have a battle, and if he looses ground and Vladdy steps up he looses the MVP, but he is still an incredible player.. Very nice sub most reverend Reverend. I just got my first one back this week( after being shaken down by fedex for $100). Well done on the Debut cards. I could only get a 9 on those - everything else 9.5 or 10.
If that was your entire sub that's a very nice gem rate. Nice one. |

We get it. You have a contrarian opinion, and you're not necessarily wrong. No need to fan the flames. Vlady is a great batter.

We'll agree to disagree. He needs to fall over not to be a lock at this point. If he gets injured tomorrow fair enough. Then it will be Vlads. Just needs to stay on the park to win....imo.

I believe both Vladdy and Ohtani will even improve next season. Thats what's even more special.. its Only good for them to have this type of MVP competition

I have a feeling, and that's all it is, that those who are in not in the Ohtani MVP camp are worried that if he wins MVP he will keep winning them year in year out because no one can do what he does. He'll just need to pitch and bat at a high level and he'll win it every time.
