Default Cleveland IX Center coming back

News today that IX center will be back next year.
Maybe Cleveland for 2023 or 2024?

Auto Show and RV Show will be back there in 2022, so this is hopefully great news for the National.

Fingers crossed it comes back but I could see event organizers just being done with Cleveland.

IX Center sucks and has nothing close by for expos or events (hotels or restaurants). Huntington Center is much better.

The IX Center is by far the better convention center for the National between Atlantic City and Rosemont. It has more aisle room, better and cheaper food choices, a Ferris wheel for the kids, and separate parking for dealers/VIPs and general admission (which is also right outside the door - no long walks required).

There are tons of hotels in Middleburg Heights and the surrounding areas and Cleveland isn't that far away for additional hotels and things to do including seeing a baseball game. I found it much easier to drive to Cleveland from Middleburg Heights for a baseball game than either of Chicago's stadiums from Rosemont.

Agreed. In the XI Center, you can actually breathe.

Huntington Center is still better in my opinion. IX Center is in the middle of nowhere. Why would I want to drive from Middleburg Heights to go downtown when I can already be downtown? The great thing about Cleveland is that is is so easy to navigate compared to other cities, and generally much cheaper to stay downtown.

Just don't understand why anyone would revive the IX Center.

Space. The main exhibit hall of IX Center is nearly a million square feet. You don't get that anywhere else. It is 4x bigger than many other convention centers. Auto show actually cancelled for 2021 just so they can go back in 2022. IX Center attracts the type of shows that smaller convention centers can't accommodate well. The smaller ones are nice for most things, but when you have a car show, boat show, indoor amusement park, and the NSCC which can use all the space they can get at this point, it's an easy decision to choose the larger venue.

I imagine the IX Center is far cheaper than the Huntington Center. Cheaper for attendees too in terms of parking. Huntington is nicer but I don’t mind the IX Center.

IMO Huntington Center has no business holding a 5 day card convention. Walk around the block when the sun goes down.

IX Center is perfect. Hopefully we are there in 2024.

This too. I think people would be spending more money on hotels/parking/food if it was downtown. Money that’s better spent in the floor.

I also live in NE Ohio. Why would you not be for someone wanting to revive it? No offense intended just seems like having events that would lead to money being brought into the area would be a good thing.

I am a big fan of the I-X Center as a building. It is my favorite venue for the show, as the large space allows wide aisle, the parking is very close, it is well lit, the separate entrances & parking for VIP and general public, and more food choices & seating on the show floor.

Each location in the current rotation offers something for me. Cleveland, favorite building; Chicago, favorite location/scene; Atlantic City, favorite commute/cost.

The National posted this on Facebook:

Quote:
We are aware of the reopening of the I-X Center in Cleveland. We have been in contact with authorities there and will continue to talk with them. The I-X Center has been a very good site for several previous Nationals. Rest assured we will post any meaningful developments as talks progress.

I've been to Stephens Center and IX Center. Like Chicago, the IX Center is close to the airport....its basically at the airport. Yes there aren't hotels or restaurants right across the street. However, the pure square footage of the IX Center is comfortable for the National. Stephens Center is cramped... especially this year. IX has more elbow room, walking room, higher ceilings, sitting room, and parking galore.

I'm pumped to hear that they're reviving IX Center and I have my fingers crossed that it'll find its way back into the National rotation in 2024. It's a shame that there's zero development adjacent to the building; location is the biggest negative as others have mentioned.

The second part of that article was all about development. While the I-X Center is being prepped for immediate opening, there will be a long term development project in place for the surrounding land. I assume that means at least one hotel and a restaurant. They didn't really go into details. But by 2024 perhaps there will be something more than just the I-X Center itself.
