Fanatics paid 10x what Topps was paying previously. Not a chance in hell that Topps could match. Fanatics was going to make sure no matter how much of an opportunity Topps had to match it was an impossibility for them to do so.

Bottom line this is all Manfred, we need to make a stink and stop this from finalizing. No way this turns out good for your average Joe.

I can definitely see Topps printing #@#@#@#@ loads of MLB product during the final years of their MLB trading card producing tenure. Especially if they do NOT get bought out by Fanatics.

If I were Topps I would print 5 to 10 times the amount of baseball product while they still have the MLB license.

Yeah they needed the MUDS deal to be done to compete with the price.

Tork?

Not surprised by this the card companies are at very tight margins.

I mean Topps could literally say "F MLB RC Rules" and just include all the big prospects over the next 4 years as RCs, diluting the initial Fanatics Brand...

I hate to say it, but I think you underestimate how many people already buy it. There's still more in the collecting community than what you see on blowout. And if it's the only thing, people will still flock to it. Anything to make a quick buck.

Manfred is commissioner of MLB not MLBPA. Even if you got MLB to do a turnaround and go back to Topps it would not matter because no way in hell is MLBPA giving that money opportunity back.

If nobody wants or buys "Fanatics" brand baseball cards, I am guessing that Fanatics tries to buy or license the "Topps" brand or name from Topps like Topps did with Bowman and Panini did with Donruss, and other "brands"

Maybe they even hire a lot of Topps employees.

I just cant see the Topps and Bowman brands dying as it relates to baseball cards.
If there truly are no Topps or Bowman baseball cards in the future, then I predict alot of baseball collectors will be forever lost.

Too many collectors will want to buy Topps cards.

Topps paid MLBPA $20 million in 2020. Easy math on what Fanatics offered

They can't do this without Topps people.

If I ran Topps and I thought that I could sell 20 times the product at a very profitable margin I would flood the market with MLB product ASAP.

That is as a long they could manufacture enough trading card product.

I misspoke about parallels, those were there with T206 backs.

I agree with the limited potential for innovation going forward. Some of the most important parts of the modern hobby - autographs, relics, parallels, and serial numbering, were viable since literally the invention of the printing press. Even shiny cards were possible.

The current potential for innovation is in the substrate area - making cards out of something other than cardboard, plastic, or metal. Ceramic cards were created in the 90s, but aren't there today. Maybe eventually they'll make Sapphire cards out of slabs of real synthetic sapphire.

If I were topps, everyone gets RCs in the final year. No point in holding players back either.

Ding ding ding. Just stupid. No license for the company who's been producing cards for decades. Complete BS that they only allow 1 licensee.
