Which is exactly what happened in 2018-19. People were already hip to Luka and Trae and those products were hot, relatively speaking, during the season. Once market saturation and summer kicked in, Luka softened substantially and the 18/19 products started to drop every week. National prices were the lowest of the year. A few months later the surge on 18/19 began and some other rookies started to pick up. Over time, we saw SGA, JJJ, Sexton, the Bridges brothers, and Ayton all start to come into their own and the tides rose.

This year is similar, albeit even in a depressed BKB market the 20/21 products are still 5-10x higher than their 18/19 counterparts at this time in 2019. Lamelo Ball and Anthony Edwards are the Luka/Trae of the class, and then a lot of unknowns. What are the odds that a few more players catch some heavy collector interest over the next 2 years? I'd say pretty good. Two years from now we could be sitting here saying "Remember when 20/21 Donruss was ONLY $500 at the National?".

Man, i am stuck in a room in a quarantine hotel for 2 weeks in an Asian country, and I AM EXCITED about the National!!
DajuanWagner, i think i understand from past posts what kind of National you like. We are very similar in our approach: Motel 6, bin boxes, nice finds, good time with friends...
And honestly, i don't see why you could not have a blast this year. You will have the same ingredients as before + a hell lot of new stuff (innovations, trade nights, influencers...).
Just enjoy the ride man.
I know i will, watching videos on youtube. Remember, 2 years ago the only way we could "feel" the National while not going, was through recap posts on BO. Especially kiki's one.

I’m not nearly as excited this year. I think that mostly has to do with product trends and what people are looking to sell. Last national I attended was 60% prizm for basketball. Barely anything short printed from the 90s and early 2000s. Virtually noting mid end you couldn’t buy on eBay. It was a lot of hunting and digging but paying a mark up for the experience. If you are a collector looking for cards not available on the secondary market, your chances of success are slim.

Yea, those were the days. I am sure Kiki will post another amazing recap. Looking forward to seeing it and all the other recaps. I am really looking forward to the Chicago show in 2 years. Things should be back to normal by then.

I called Motel 6 and they said it was going to be $507.00 for 3 days. Didn't see that coming.......

I used to be so excited to go to the National and spend around $1,000 on wax each year, coming home with 12-15 boxes.

No wax for me, as I refuse to pay over MSRP for retail, and I'm not paying $1,000 1 hobby box.

The National is in Rosemont IL. I highkly doubt anyone going to Lolla is staying in Rosemont, which is 30 miles and a good hour away from grant Park in Chicago, where Lolla is being held.

Room rates around Rosemont are so high, because so many people are coming to the National.

It is going to be packed in there!

I'm not going this year, and I'm sad to miss everyone, but I can also say that I really hate crowds, and this year, there's going to be so many people that I would not enjoy it.

I hear ya!

I was at the Chicago Bears 100th anniversary event in the same convention center, back in 2019.

They had the same 10,000 people a day that are expected at this years National. And it took over an hour to get inside! Lines pouring in from every direction as well. It was crazy.

People were waiting along River Road all the way back to Denny's, which is a mile away.

You can see some of the crowds in the below. And the Bears booked the entire building, both floors. And people were still ontop of each other. I cant image what it will look like for this show. I guess ill find out in a few hours!

Wow, I hope the show is like that. It's great for hobby! The card shows around the Bay Area have been crazy busy too.

P.S. It's not "the Nationals". This isn't a gymnastics competition or swim meet. There is ONE National and it is called The National. No "s" at the end. Pet peeve of mine.
There were long lines if you waited until show opening to pick up your credentials.

Show floor on Wednesday was not packed at all. I've been to the E3 expo back in the day and that was a real jungle. No comparison with what I saw today. Weekend will obviously pick up.

I arrived about 3:15 but didn't see any line for the VIP early admittance. I even asked people working security at the entrance. Around 3:31 they just started letting those with VIP badges in so there wasn't much of a wait at all.
