The issue with having such a lofty expectation is if he does not live up to the hype, his card prices will take a hit.

As cool as this is I wish people would pump the damn brakes. Why can’t people enjoy something without expectations and/or sensationalizing it anymore. Not just worried about card prices. The more that people focus on failed expectations, the less enjoyable it is to witness and experience.

I hear you. Every game seems make or break for the continuance of the trend, and yeah that's stressful. I find myself caring a lot more for every AB and every batter pitched against.

I guess that means I need to keep selling off stuff here and there until I either get rid of enough Ohtani that I feel comfortable with the rest as a % value of my collection, or prices need to come down to the point where I don't want to sell anymore and am cool with the on field ups and downs, which WILL continue.

I love rooting for Shohei and will continue that no matter what.

Do you folks think this is Express worthy? It's the Mini version and only 9 of each '83 white card were produced. So pretty high on the rare side but in a less-than-popular set.

ETA: I know it won't gem, the '83 Minis are impossible to find centered. This is actually pretty good centering when it comes to the '83 Minis. But when there's only 9 of them and PSA hasn't even graded one yet I don't think there's as much focus on the Mint vs. Gem aspect.

No way. Less than popular is a serious understatement. There's plenty of rare 2018 minis listed of him and only one sale of one in the last week. It was an Update /5 that did $340 yesterday. An insert version /9 is surely less than that and I think below the territory where it's worth spending $200 to try to get a 10

Paying $200 to put a 9 on that card? Nonononono. I think the number of people that are even aware of tough centering on minis or would care to pay a premium for a well centered one is probably limited to the person I'm responding to

Looks like the Ohtani market is plateauing/leveling off today. I don't see that as a bad thing at all. In fact I would rather see some of these RC cards establish a better floor as prices on some cards seem to be all over the place (at least on low end raw).

Everyone wants $10,000 for their Ohtani card all of the sudden and feels entitled to get more than the 5x return they'd be getting.

I'm pretty sure we're near at least a small decline when people start acting like this.

I definitely have a strategy for my SGC submitted Ohtani’s for any 10’s I receive. People miss out a lot when they are tryjn*to time the market. Leaving meat on the bone reduces returns in my experience.

I sold a couple Ohtanis for records prices for me after his last nice start which was only a few days ago, so yes while there's been a sharp decline in the last few days performance will continue to be key.

more like people want prices from 2 1/2 months ago for a guy hitting and pitching above replacement level because he didn't win the HRD.

Everything else that seller sold did extremely well. Not records, but very strong. SSP Pitching perhaps underperformed, but much has been said about traditional SSP/SP variations struggling relative to other cards and not following typical baseball norms, hence the # of new collectors buying Ohtani.

Red shirt was an anomaly for sure. Great buy for the buyer.
