Default Off-season prices and eBay loophole for sellers...

So I've been buying up a few things lately, cards that sold for double during the season but are affordable now, and I can't understand why sellers are just rolling things out rather than waiting.

Anywho, a couple of times recently I've won something (coincidentally for my maximum price) only to have them cancelled by the sellers. Both times the reason has been 'damaged or out of stock', and one of them was literally just minutes after it ended. At least the second seller messaged me (after cancelling) to tell me one of the two items on the lot was damaged, yet didn't respond to me asking him to show me the damage......

The fact that these cancellations prevent you from leaving feedback, isn't this just an easy way for sellers to not like the selling price and just choose not to sell it for that, and get away with it? Literally the only thing you can do is report the seller (which isn't super easy/straight forward and I'm sure eBay will do nothing), unable to warn other bidders.

How can eBay allow this??

This actually happened to me recently. I won a pc card at a very reasonable price from the norm, the seller cancels and relists the card at a ridiculous "bin" price. smh...

Sadly, people can't accept the current market prices for cards. Throw in actual offers of recent auction prices (sometimes going over) and they can't accept that's what it's worth. I paid some of the prices on the ride up and you don't like the prices on the ride down

Finding myself in the same situation right now. The seller messaged me multiple times to get me to agree to cancel the order but eBay advised me not to after I spoke with them. Seller gave some story how terrible weather hit his area and that there would be fedex delays for possibly weeks. He cancels my order and has the audacity to put the reason as “buyer requested cancel…” and even tells me eBay told him to do that to avoid any defects on his feedback/seller rating.

Going to follow-up with eBay on this. Is there really no way to leave negative feedback for these situations?

I am a seller more so than anything and I have always taken “the price is the price of the market!” There are far more “investors” vs “collectors” in the market at the moment and that is problematic. Many “invested” at record high levels and those levels may never be hit again, unless, God forbid, the Delta variant results in another shutdown. Yes numbers are increasing which is scary! As a collector, and a person who does not invest thousands of dollars into cards, well I did buy one at high levels, but it is PC, I am ok with the price adjustments. The stock market has corrections all the time. Markets will go back up, but it might take time. Eggs in one basket is very dangerous and some are finding this out. Buy what you love and can afford.

When this happened to me in March, I was able to Google how to leave feedback on canceled auction and there is a strange ugly old feedback dashboard that eBay hasn't deprecated that can be used for leaving feedback. To make life hard/screw the buyer, eBay removed the option of leaving feedback through the normal My eBay pages. A quick google will show you how to do it. It is hidden, not impossible.

All of that being said with a grain of salt... maybe eBay made things even worse for buyers in the last 4 months.

This happens to me literally multiple times a month now. I understand why ebay allows sellers to do it. But they should be limiting it.

It's been hidden like this for a few years now I believe. Always been possible via clicking around on desktop. Can't do on app.

Appreciate this, I think there is a waiting period of 7 days. This just happened a couple days ago so I’ll have to wait to see if this works.

Since a seller can't leave a negative for a "buyer's remorse" return, buyers should not be able to leave a negative for a "seller's remorse" cancellation.

Sorry man, I realise this has potentially made unscrupulous sellers aware of this opportunity, but as a side note that's another card I never saw - and I literally just search for the word Zion. eBay is broken.

Anything under 100 for that card and I'll be worried. I'm happy with my 8 that cost me less than 30 with shipping and taxes included.

Previous sales were around $150. This was definitely too good to be true. Still a $hit move by a seller trying to create a brand

I was wondering what the hell a feedback page had to do with anything and only then saw the leave feedback link towards the bottom right. Seems you CAN leave a negative on a cancelled item, you just have to look really hard to be able to! Thanks for the (albeit vague) heads up.
